What about a Ditto feature? It would be like a fave, but more like re-inforcing what someone else said. This would not only be helpful for technical questions, but also for personal ones.
Sorry, k8t, but I do not like this idea one bit.
If there's a very good answer in an askme thread (I presume that you intend this specifically for the green, given the reference to technical and personal questions), that is the important thing. If it's a very good answer that appears to be being glossed over, you can always post a comment to say that you agree with it and why.

The POE News forums let you "bulb" others' posts as sort of a generalized positive reinforcement, "best of thread" thing. Heavily-bulbed posts are featured prominently on main pages of the site, and in users' profiles, as well as being highlighted within the thread.
It's undeniably a competitive thing, and introduces other negative elements: posters are sometimes derided for being "bulb-whores" if they seem to be pandering to popular opinion; unpopular posters sometimes have their posts "ironically" bulbed; and there's a lot of chatter that would be considered noise on MeFi that consists of "bulbed" (cf. "flagged as fantastic"), "spirit-bulbed" (when you've already used your bulb for that thread on another post), and "anti-bulbed" when a post sucks.
Personally, I like the system, but it has its flaws, and POE News is a very, very different site from MetaFilter. It would change the tenor of the site clearly and quickly. I think Matt knows this, and I doubt we'll ever see such a feature.
