Can we link the FAQ from the header? September 11, 2006 1:13 PM   Subscribe

I was having trouble figuring out how long I needed to wait before I posted again. I eventually found it in the FAQ, and that's all well and good, but I found the FAQ itself difficult to find. Sure, it's linked at the bottom of the various MeFi sites, but only on MeTa is it linked at the top. That's an issue for people like myself that mostly read MeFi through the RSS feed and don't normally scroll through the site to the bottom. Heck, I didn't even know the footer existed prior to today! So my request is to link to the FAQ from the header on the sites that don't currently have it there.

Sounds like a reasonable request to me, but cue the vehement disagreement.

Doesn't each error page saying you can't post again tell you how long you have to wait?

Probably, but I guess my request goes a little beyond that to making the FAQ more noticeable. I may soon have a few things to post to MePro (what's the abbreviation used round these parts for Projects?) and went hunting before I posted. Good thing, too!

Sounds like a good idea. The FAQ link is indeed hard to find on the front page.

"The Projects," I think.

*looks askew for confirmation*

While you're all looking at the FAQ, if you notice anything it's missing, or anything that's glaringly wrong, feel free to let mathowie or I know.

How about a big visible link to the FAQ on all the error pages. (like when you try to post a question the day after posting one).

Yeah, good call blue_beetle. Though the error pages should already say "sorry, you can only post once per day/per week/per month".

BTW, love the AskMetafilter guidelines page.

Plug: AskMe next question timer Greasemonkey script. If there was demand, I could have it support all three four n sections.

Just wanted to say that I have also looked around for the FAQ and not been able to find it. A link in the top bar on Ask would have helped me.

Also: if you search for "FAQ" you don't get the FAQ. And it's not tagged with FAQ. (Maybe there is some obvious reason why, but if so I don't know it.)
