Is this Best Posts link for August supposed to be there? October 17, 2006 7:58 AM   Subscribe

Does the Best Posts for August 2006 page still deserve a link in the navigation atop every blue page?

I mean it would be great if it continued to be updated (even without the cash prize). But if it's always gonna be "August 2006", I think it's time the link found a new home.

This is totally unrelated, but posted by line reads "If I Had An Anus to feature requests" and I can't help but wonder how that sentence ends.

I think not only should it stay, but the winners should have little animated-gif trophies next to all their posts pointing back to it.

I think it should remain for the illustrative aspect of it.

People should have access to a collection of posts which are demonstrative of what we want here at Metafilter. It's the inverse of broken windows.

It might be worthwhile to put some context on the page explaining that there was a contest each day and those are the selected winners.

But it should remain. We should triumph excellence so that people may have an idea of what we triumph.

Yeah I like the idea of keeping the link up there, but maybe with a bit more information about what was going on.

I've been thinking about this for awhile, actually! I really wish it would continue to be updated, both for Mefi and Askmefi. Projects already has its own way of doing this. There are some other slightly comparable ways of doing showcasing interesting posts (side blog in the blue, for example), but I really enjoyed reading the bestof updates. I suppose if it's too much work there could be a voting or nominating system as in projects...

I was going to remove the link when I add a tabbed "recent popular favorites" feed to the front page.

a tabbed "recent popular favorites" feed to the front page

Good news!!!

I agree, dios, that that page provides excellent examples of what we should be striving for, and I would definately want the link to exist in a prominent place or two (one being the 'post a link' page perhaps). Just not right up top on every page. It's so tempting there and has seduced to me to click it many times in past month and a half, even though I know she hasn't changed one bit.

I just triumphed all over my keyboard. Sorry.

Agreed, in that it would be lovely if it were placed prominently.

The month I won Metafilter should be tattooed on all new members flesh. So let it be written, so let it be done!
