Yeah, I had a hunch the sudden wave of post after post about conservative comedies had to be by shills or something.

I'm sort of slow, can you guys tell me what you're talking about?
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 9:44 PM on February 20, 2007

You're lucky I have some latin under my belt. Phaedon says, and I quote, "madaboutpolitics is a shill for the horrid 'The American Show', and should be banned."

Although I look at it now, and I think "The start of knowledge is the concern of god". How the tree of knowledge relates to those three stygian harpies is beyond me, though.

Oh, now that I see the title in the My Comments field it all makes sense.

And apparently a poorly concealed shill whose attempt at astroturfing can be revealed by a simple Googling.

I've spent the last twenty minutes searching for clear evidence of my strong suspicion that madaboutpolitics is somehow directly affiliated with that show, but I haven't found anything yet. All I've figured out so far is that the same person also goes by "bigdawgs255" on Yahoo and YouTube, showed up on the internet just recently, and has done nothing but promote that show on a few dozen different sites. I suppose she could just be an insane fan, but given how awful the show is, I can't imagine anything other than shill.

ah. "timor " as in "timorous". Makes sense. Thanks, phaedon.

You would have to be paid (well) to think about it that many times. I saw it when linked the first time, and am still trying to blot out the memory with drink. The beginning of wisdom of fear of the show.

Her last post was an instant trainwreck. I never wanted it to end.

I'm amazed someone is being paid to promote that drivel.
posted by owhydididoit at 10:05 PM on February 20, 2007

it's not like anyone would promote it because it's good.
posted by boo_radley at 10:50 PM on February 20, 2007

From the deleted post dhammond linked: "I AM NOT POSTING an episode that was seen here already, as my post was deleted yesterday 2 minutes after I posted it. That is why I'm trying again. Give it a chance."

Heh. Plucky little shill.

Heh. Actually it seems like those girls are getting a little better. They don't induce physical pain anymore. And the skinny one is wearing skimpy "PJs" in this episode.

This is almost as bad as the time that Stormfront.org outed me when I was trying to astroturf my Black History Month documentary.

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.

If it really is Her we should keep her around and pretend nothing's happening, but whenever she posts immediately delete it, and wait for her to flameout from the resulting persecution complex. Just a suggestion.

Welcome to the Astroturfer Hunters Union, phaedon. Dues are $40 a month.

I really hope MadAboutPolitics is some maverick prankster who saw the original America Show thread and took abulafa and mk1gti's ideas too their logical extremes. Julia Gorin is a meta-satirist! A Kaufman-esque genius whose entire career is a setup to make conservatives look stupid! Nobody let them in on the joke until Fox makes a pilot, okay?

No, actually I think that MadAboutPolitics is in fact some how responsible for the America Show.

Blech. She's like a poor man's Ann Coulter.

Wait. That's not right...Does that mean she's uglier than Ann Coulter, or better looking than Ann Coulter? I've confused myself.

Does the "BANNED" over her username in that thread in #12 up there really mean she was banned from Something Awful? That'd be quite an accomplishment; I reckon you have to be some kind of real dick to get yourself banned from freaking SA.
posted by mediareport at 3:39 PM on February 21, 2007

depends who you ask. there's a theory running over there that you don't have to do all that much to get banned, as Lowtax loves collecting those ten dollar fees when you re-register.

also, spamming links to the america show would do it.

delmoi, that's the first name in her profile. I had not previously heard of Ms. Marsden before I posted that, and now after several hours can not exactly recall how landed at her page but it was a logical move.

I reckon you have to be some kind of real dick to get yourself banned from freaking SA.

Like shmegegge said. It's astonishingly easy to get banned or probated from SA, for a bewilderingly large and constantly-shifting array of reasons. It's no theory. And yes, Lowtax makes a pretty penny on re-registrations.

Careful, though, mediareport. Your elitism (Fark sucks! Digg sucks! Everyone sucks but us!) is showing. Goons are younger and less articulate than MeFites, on the average, perhaps, but there's a lot of good stuff over there (if less than there used to be, it feels like, at least in terms of Comedy Gold).

It's been interesting to watch the evolution of their moderation policies and the ones here over the last 7 years, and compare the Regimes. I've been a member at both sites for that long.

Your elitism (Fark sucks! Digg sucks! Everyone sucks but us!) is showing.

Whoa, I never said any of that. I just figured the forums over there (which I admit to avoiding like the plague on general suspicion) would allow for more dickery than here. Glad to learn that's not necessarily the case, and probably shouldn't be surprised that SA's moderation may go overboard and be more inconsistent than MeFi's. I've occasionally checked the links at Something Awful and found good stuff there, for sure, and it makes sense the same kinds of offenses would get you banned there as do here.

It was kinda dumb to assume otherwise, but please don't read any "everyone sucks but us" stuff into what I've been saying. Fark video has been one of my regular visits since I learned about it here last summer.
