less meta mefi sideblog? April 6, 2007 4:03 PM   Subscribe

I'm missing the inclusion of noteworthy posts/comments on the sideblog (it's been a couple months since a non-"site news" tidbit). Is it on its way out as a "super bump" or has the community just been that uninteresting?

Maybe there hasn't been anything worthy of it.

Basically everything interesting has been about Mormons, and we're trying to keep that on the dee ell.

The Popular Favorites tab on the front pages does a lot of the highlighting for us, and we use the podcast to highlight our favorites as well.

Speaking of the podcast... *cough, cough*

IRFH has terminal lung cancer, and Episode 5 is his dying make-a-wish.

It's very difficult for me to bring myself to listen to a podcast, even one for something I love as much as Metafilter.

I just think of that kid in Wet Hot American Summer broadcasting in his overdubbed nerd voice but the plugs aren't even plugged in.

I volunteer to take Flo to Dizzyland, but only if I get his trainset when he croaks.

I recorded the podcast with jessamyn this morning and will edit tonight. Usually I spend all day Friday doing it, but I went out and enjoyed the sunny day instead.

nathancaswell, just read the rough podcast transcript/notes for each episode, which is loaded with links to interesting threads.

(Apologies for the derail, but is it odd(er) to see your words on paper, or to hear your voice on the 'cast?)

I'll try to keep an eye peeled for sidebar stuff a little more vigilantly. Podcast on the way.

Where do you keep the podcast transcript?

I mean the show notes on each metatalk post.

Where do you keep the podcast transcript?

There isn't one. If some volunteer would like to make one, it can go in the MeTa thread announcing the podcast which will probably be tomorrow sometime.

Don't those pod things eventually try to take over the Earth or something? I'm scared.

I'm not sure if this is quite sidebarable, but I wanted to draw folks' attention to the comment Susie Bright left in askme recently. She mentioned that Jessamyn sent her over.

It was particularly cool (I thought) because many commenters in the thread had recommended Susie as a good resource for the OP, and then, there she was!

Announcements of new podcasts, if they are left up on the sidebar as they currently are, will, I suppose, push off (and keep off) just about anything else, which would be unfortunate and will kind of defeat the original purpose of the sidebar, no? How about using the sidebar to announce the latest podcast, with a direct link to it, and putting past podcast links on a separate page made just for that purpose? One link on the sidebar would then go to the newest podcast, and one other link would take you to the page that contains links to all other podcasts. That'd free up the sidebar again.

How about using the sidebar to announce the latest podcast

That's a very good idea. Also, I'll add the Susie Bright comment.

Dizzy typed "I volunteer to take Flo to Dizzyland"

That sounds dirty.
