IdleCuriousityFilter: What media mentions of MetaFilter have generated significant numbers of new accounts?

Reading jennydiski's lovely London Review of Books essay, I wondered if any of the magazine's readers would be tempted to come sign up for a MeFi account. So now I'm curious - have there been print/TV/whatever mentions of MetaFilter that have caused a huge spike in new member signups?

When quonsar's pantsfish appeared on the cover of TrouserTrout Monthly, 5514 new people signed up.

Unfortunately, none of them paid the $5 signup fee, so their accounts are all lying dormant, sucking up space n the server.

Because others would likely be interested in the answer?

Do you really listen to the mefi podcast when you run, Brittanie?

Now why would I lie about something like that?

Only when I run on the treadmill. It makes the time go by faster. I also listen to NPR podcasts.

I found it the one time I picked up a Wall Street Journal off the street.

I know the Brill's Content (R.I.P.) article generated a bunch of signups, including yours truly.

although, from that same thread: I was too hasty in thinking it was magazine effects.

I usually listen to the podcasts while operating heavy machinery in the back yard. This is true -- I've got miracle noise-filtering iPod earphones that block more noise than common earplugs, so I can listen to Jessamyn fumbling with her microphone settings at something approaching conversational volume, even while I'm running a ripsaw. Although now that winter's coming, I'll have to consider alternative routines.

Er. What was the question again?

The image that owillis linked to in the thread that vito90 linked to is like a double meta goatse or something.

Wait, are you saying MeFi is a terrorist cell? I thought all the pockets on the complimentary blue vest were for my iPhone. And stuff.
