Related tags feature request July 31, 2008 1:53 PM   Subscribe

Pony request for related tags feature.

As an example, when viewing the tag online in Ask Metafilter, this is the current form:
Related tags:
internet + (36)

and this is my suggested form:
Related tags:
internet (1221) + (36)

I think it would be nice to know how many posts are tagged with the related tag alone, not just how many posts are tagged with both tags. Sorry if this was requested before, I didn't find any similar requests in my searches.

In the absence of a more constructive contribution to this thread, let us walk together, you and I. And while we do, let us take in the rolling hills and ancient forests of our surroundings. Let us look upon the lakes and rivers of our homelands and the gleaming seas that separate us from the distant lands of our fancy. After we have walked, let us take a blanket, lay it in a leafy meadow somewhere and, over a bottle of two of wine, let us discuss the Way The World Is.

When we have done this all, when we have contemplated the finite and therefore rapturous beauties that surround us and define us, let us return to this thread and see whether we can't make any progress on this 'related tags' problem that we seem to be having.

I'm free tomorrow, monday and wednesday but am pretty rammed everywhere else.

I don't have a problem with this pony, but I won't hang out with you and Jofus. That seems a little weird.

I will join you and Jofus, provided I get to add an item to the agenda: How the World Should and Would Be, if Only Those Fuckers Would Put Me In Charge. This discussion will probably require an additional bottle of wine.

Monday works well for me.

So, a first stab at an agenda then:

1) The togetherness of all things.
2) The inherent good that dwells within the hearts of all men.
3) Why me (and/or my mates) should be in charge.
4) Miscellaneous shouting
5) The thing with the related tags.

I'd suggest that we should probably bring a half case at least, and maybe some beers in case the weather turns warm.

After reading this, I think I'll need a drink. I'm in.

Should we invite Jim Jones?

Also, togetherness, ipso facto in its beingtude, can't be reified to a thing, the thing or the thing-in-itself.

I say we lay low until the thread drops off the front page... and then we riot!

What is this thing that, simply by its existence—no, by the knowledge of its existence and propagation thereof—prevents or obstructs similar existences? I call it the Jim Jones Performance Potential Recognition Conundrum, and it pains me so.

Let's do this.

Wait for it... wait for it... only one more MetaTalk post to go before we slip under the radar...

I actually had a dream that I woke up (in the dream) and realized that I had posted an incoherent, drunken MetaTalk thread haranguing MeFites for not getting along more. My dreams are spectacularly boring. I'm the only person I know for whom dreamlife is much less interesting than waking existence. A typical dream for me is I run into a friend on a street near my house and he's going to a grocery store... the twist being it's not the grocery store he goes to normally because they're doing inventory at that one.

Alright, people, it's off the front page! I say we party. I've got the mixers, did anybody bring alcohol?
posted by Kattullus at 9:26 AM on August 4, 2008

I'll have a snowball - extra brandy. I rarely remember my dreams but, as my wedding draws closer, both me and the missus increasingly wake up sweating and shouting with, presumably, horrible stress dreams. Only 4 weeks to go. This thread might actually be a good way of remembering the date - closing as it does a day before the big day :-)

Let's hope that the thread-closing won't be the only thing that reminds you of your wedding.

So... have you hired the pigeon-canoneers yet?
posted by Kattullus at 1:08 PM on August 4, 2008

Jofus, I raise a drink to you. A screwdriver, as it is early morning here. We'll call this thread your pre-wedding party.
posted by never used baby shoes at 7:49 AM on August 5, 2008

Cheers chaps! If there were room enough in the reception hall, I'd hire you all as rose petal-scatterers. As it is, we'll just have to get internet drunk.

Look, if you haven't hired any pigeon-canoneers I'll be happy to blast crazed pigeons out of a mini-howitzer. Just give the word!

Dear me, my weapon was not properly cocked! Be a champ and heave another bird up yonder, sir.
posted by carsonb at 11:43 PM on August 6, 2008

In a jiffy, dear Carson.

Heeeeeeere, pidgy pidgy pidgy...

Ow! Blasted bird pecked me! Don't worry, dear Carson, I'll get the cursed fowl into the canon.

Ha ha! I grabbed it. Now, into the cannon with you!

Hmm... where's that bird?

*peers into barrel, sees singed pigeon holding onto the sides for dear life*
*tries to reach for pigeon*

Deuce have it! My arm's stuck!

*pigeon squeezes by arm, flies behind mini-howitzer*

No, pidgy... don't... don't pidgy... please, little pidgy...
