MeFi Mall Rides Again! December 1, 2008 8:46 AM   Subscribe

Show us your wares! We're going to do a MeFi Mall page again for holidaytime this year. If you'd like to be included, please drop me a line with your username, a link to a page where people can see/purchase your items and a short text description. A few specifics inside.

- We have an Etsy team so if your store is on Etsy please join Metsy (blog) and drop casarkos a note and we'll do one big link to the team.
- Link must go to your stuff, not your friend or family's stuff. If you want them included, get them a MeFi gift account and they can send in their own link.
- I've cleared out last year's store but I still have all the copy so if you want "same as last year" just let me know.
- No links to auctions, craigslist or one-off "car for sale" sales. Links will be up all month.

Any more questions feel free to MeMail me or comment here.

Is there any link on Etsy to see everyone's for sale stuff all on one page? All I see are a couple blogs and a list of all the usernames, but clicking each one to see a store seems like a pain.

They're still getting people up and running with the "metsy" tag but that will be the way to get all the MeFi stuff on one page, to the best of my knowledge. The team stuff could be displayed a bunch better but the blog has nice hilights.

I suppose a record that I haven't played on but that I've released is a no-go under the »not your friend or family's stuff« rule?

Totally fair if that's the case, I'm just wondering.

I'm thinking of selling Uncomfortable Phone Conversations With Grumblebee.

a record that I haven't played on but that I've released

I'm not even sure what that means. Generally speaking your stuff, by you, is what we're looking for. The page is so people who want to buy stuff from MeFites have a go-to page and MeFites who have stuff to sell have a go-to page. It's not supposed to be another place to promote things other than that.

I'm not even sure what that means.

Sounds to me like he means he released it--as in he owns the record label it's on.

You misspelled dng's handle on that page.

Yeah, that's it. Low blood sugar and english as a second language is not a good combination! :)

Is that the correct blog link? It looks like it might be another team using "metsy."

I have a list of books that I didn't write or release, but I will make money if you buy them....

yeah blog link was wrong, fixing now, thanks for the typo fixes too.

Just wanted to add - if your Etsy shop is active and you're joining Metsy, please put up a banner logo thingy on your shop page so I can include it in your entry on the Tumblr blog.

Also, I'm still looking for a way to list tags for Tumblr entries in the sidebar so people can get to stores that have fallen off the front page and sort by category and all that.
posted by casarkos at 11:52 AM on December 1, 2008

One other thing: it's entirely possible that an item tagged with "metsy" will not, in fact, be from a member of the Metsy team. In fact, I just discovered that a lot of non-Metsy people seem to be doing this. Maybe I've stumbled onto a hotbed of unethical crafter-ness or something.

In any case, please be wary and I'm really sorry this isn't better organized.
posted by casarkos at 12:11 PM on December 1, 2008

omfg, I'm even more sorry than before. The "metsy" tag has already been appropriated by the Mixed Media team and that's why there are all these non-Mefite items listed.

I suppose we could all go in and change our item tags to "metafilter".

Yay.

Yeah I think we need to get the tag thing straight. Is "mefi" okay? I can change the mall page to whatever so yeah having a tag that another team has is probably something that needs to change.

"mefi" is great. I'll post some kind of announcement on the team page.

Hopefully people have been too tryptophan-ed the past weekedn to do much tagging.

LionIndex's offer last year is still the best MeFi Mall offer of all time.

I try to buy all my gifts on etsy. I will have to check this out!

casarkos, what sort of banner logo thingy are you talking about? Do you mean just a regular shop banner or is there some higher-level feature that only the cabal knows I don't know about?

Thanks for organizing Team Metsy, even if somebody else did scoop our rightful tag.
posted by Quietgal at 2:05 PM on December 1, 2008

Yes, just a shop banner. I'm plugging them into the blog entries like so.

I am still providing massages and gift vouchers for massages. The recipients still need to travel to Armadale in Melbourne, Australia unless they are taking up the offer to pay for me to travel to their exotic location. This year I even have a website! www.armadalemassage.com.au

For the books and prints category, do only handmade/indieprinted books that we're personally selling count?

If you mean "can I advertise my used books store there?" then no, we're trying to focus on stuff made by MeFites. If you mean something else, please ask more specifically.

I mean, I wrote a book and Random House is publishing it, not me. Can I link it?
posted by headspace at 5:53 PM on December 1, 2008

Yes, totally. I think there's at least one other person like this so I think we'll be linking to Amazon.com listings for them and if you can send me like a one sentence description of why the book is awesome, then sure.

I work for a magazine called Ambit that's full of ace stories and poems and artworks. It's all done by half-a-dozen people, working a couple of days a week each, out of someone's front room. We gots Paypal powers. We cool?

I've done portrait and wedding photography and used to sell some of my documentary and fine art stuff up on Etsy - however I don't have a decent portfolio to link you to as my Flickr account is having a bit of an overhaul - there is a lot of crap in there just now. However, if anyone wants prints of my stuff they're welcome to contact me and I can get some decent quality prints.

To add: I'm impressed with so many Etsy sellers, particularly as I can never bring myself to give away things I've made unless it's to friends (so I can visit them).

As of last week, I made some of my Zombie Survival Gear gifts available online.

The range is still a bit limited, but I'm working to expand it.

So far, most of the people that I've shown it to especially like the romantic Teddy Bear.

Oh, well... if we're hawking books we've written that are for sale on Amazon and in book stores, then here's my latest. It's about After Effects.

I sell my two mystery novels through my site, and through lulu and amazon.

My website and blog.

About the series - you can download the first 30 pages of each book in PDF for free.

here are some sfw & nsfw examples

Thanks! Sorry, didn't mean to harass you.
I figured you were super-busy but then I thought maybe I screwed up the MeMail somehow after your comment above.
