How do I get last.fm tracks to show up on my profile? February 25, 2009 6:55 PM   Subscribe

What's the secret to getting last.fm played tracks to show up on my profile?

I've checked out this thread and added my information and made sure that information was public, but I still don't see tracks on my profile several hours after I did all the right things. Is there a way to debug this, or am I missing something?

Unlike Flickr, the last.fm tracklist doesn't automatically show up as soon as you add a last.fm username to your profile. We have a script that hits last.fm periodically and grabs tracks by members. It's probably just taking the script a while to hit your public feed. There are thousands of members to check, and everyone is shuffled randomly. Once it grabs a few of your recent tracks the information will show up on your profile page.

Thanks, pb, for the insight - I didn't see that in the other threads. Maybe a FAQ add?

Sure, added this: "Adding a Flickr, Last.fm, or Twitter username to your profile will add a widget with your recent activity from those sites to your profile page. Keep in mind that it might take some time for MetaFilter to gather your latest information from those sites before the widget appears on your page."

I felt like since 90% of mefi was all hipster I could go all throwback and still look like as much of a dork as possible.

Pro-tip: The script here at MeFi waits until you're listening to the single most embarrasing song in your collection - so that when people hit up your profile page, they can more easily imagine you, eyes screwed tight shut; clutching a hair-brush and swaying clumsily at the hips to True by Spandau Ballet.

It takes a while because they need to send your data to the RIAA first. IT'S TRUE I READ IT ON THE INTERNET.

I usually read in the bathtub, so I'm not sure if a Kindle is necessarily the right thing for me.
