Is MetaFilter/MetaTalk's blue/gray color scheme an allusion to the Civil War? February 2, 2002 1:54 PM   Subscribe

Is MetaFilter/MetaTalk's much-beloved blue/gray color scheme a subtle allusion to the Civil War?

Yes, it's Matt's way of subtly trying to attract the attention of Ken Burns in order to persuade him to make a documentary about 'blogs. Over sepia-toned shots of monitor screens, Waffle House, cute kitties, and fluffy bunnies with pancakes on their heads, sonorous voice-over narrators will read the sad and poignant thread comments of posters from all sides of the ideological spectrum; UncleFes posts will be read by Garrison Keillor, BarneyFifesBullet by Robert Vaughn, bunnyfire by Sally Kellerman, and hincandenza by the Olson twins.

Actually, those of us in the city where it started refer to it as the Recent Unpleasantness.

It's a local quirk, but it always makes me smile.

Mr BaliHai- Don't be silly, only one man is fit to be the voice of Mathowie and that man is Charlton Heston.

Okay, as long as it's the Planet of the Apes Heston.

I'm Roy Batty (as portrayed by Rutger Hauer in Bladerunner)!:

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die... Kafakesque.

I'll have you know that I carried these letters up my ass for seven long years. And now, Gentle Reader, I give them to you.
