If we do it once, it's a funny jokey surprise.
If we do it twice, it's a callback.
Any more than that, and it's feature creep.

I find it mildly amusing that one day, Mefites decided en masse that they'd had enough of the Comic Sans bashing, and rose up at once to become its staunchest defenders. The populistic designer-bashing is a little baffling, though.

Comic Sans irritates me, mildly, but the vehemence that some people have against it is baffling. That being said, I find it far more odd the degree to which some people I've met hate Arial. It's a perfectly normal-looking typeface! It's not spectacular, but it works! What the hell?

It's okay -- we ironically like Comic Sans now, because apparently hipsters hate it. The enemy of my enemy...
People who hate Comic Sans aren't well-developed enough to be hipsters. Hipster graphic designers are the ones who design their web sites in MS Paint and there's a little stick figure guy who talks to you.

I really don't understand font-hate, or font-hater haters.
I don't think I'm either, but being friends with a number of designers it is something I can understand. As I understand it, creative work can get really frustrating when your clients or bosses ask for the same thing all the time, or say "make it look like so-and-so's site/flyer/layout." You wind up using the same fonts all the time, some of which may be ugly or considered poor stylistic choices in the minds of people like designers who are to some extent paid to think about these things. So yeah, font-hate is born out of frustration. Conversely it can be sort of annoying to listen to sometimes when it's not something you have to pay attention to, and you might even find it a really stupid thing to get all worked up about. Watching the opening credits/title screens of movies with designers is painful sometimes.
I remember coming back after a year abroad and trying to lay out a bunch of my photos with some of of my blog entries from the trip because some people in my family really loved it and had asked me to make an album. InDesign was the only program I had available, and I'm far from a designer, so I had to get in touch with my designer buddy for tips. At some point he requested to see what I was working on and he's asks "why are you laying this out like a magazine and what's with that font?" and I'm all "I'm laying it out this way because STFU you jerk, I like this font"

In the "font" dropdown in MS Word I accidentally selected the ultimate hustler and he said "man you call that a rich text file? that's so poor the homeless men downstairs gonna give you their spare change" then I tried to play it off saving it as a .doc file but he was like "man even your text effects are struckthrough" and I was like damn.
