Users with numbers in their names. May 12, 2011 2:12 PM   Subscribe

I've found lately that I conflate three different users in my mind, because all their usernames start wih a number. I know it's not you guys -- it's a problem with my brain, and that you are all individuals -- I think -- but nonetheless. It got me wondering. Are all the numerals one through nine represented?

The three that I keep confusing are three blind mice, fourcheesemac and Five Fresh Fish, who are all pretty regular commenters.

Aside from sixcolors, how many other numerals names are there? Searching the site for "two" doesn't work because it's overly-broad. Show yourselves! Bonus points for number-adjective-noun.

He asked to come back recently and we said that Brand New Day is all about coming back and not being that guy you were that got you banned. So he could sign up again but not have that username back and while I don't think he was totally thrilled with that option, it seemd okay to him and I'm not sure what he did.

Because I look at the profiles of anyone I find interesting, the visited-link colour makes a funny two-tier display system on my end

That used to bother me as well, so I added this to my user style sheet for the site:
a[href*="metafilter.com/user/"]:visited { color: #cc0 !important } /* normal threads */
a[href*="metafilter.com/user/"][style*="color: rgb(170, 170, 170)"]:visited { color: #aaa !important } /* RA */
Now profile links don't look visited even if they have been. You'll have to adapt this if you use the sacrilegious plain theme.

Can't find any fractions with numerator/denominator (unless you count c/j), but there were a few more number usernames with decimal points:

26.2

three blind mice: "ALL USER NAMES WITH NUMBERS IN THEM. ATTENTION ALL USER NAMES WITH NUMBERS IN THEM. OUR CODE HAS BEEN BROKEN. CEASE-FIRE AT ONCE. STOP ALL HOSTILE ACTION AGAINST ALLIED SHIPPING."

Not to sound mean, and yeah, maybe we're not all equal, but you're odd to point out the divide considering you're not even a fraction of us. Jesus, sum people...

The k in kmz stands for kernel, which originally derived not from oh so neckbeardy OS jargon, but rather the kernel of a group homomorphism.

And now you know... the rest of the story.

(Also, Metafilter: it's a lot of bone this and honey that. That makes an even five times!)

This seems to be the thread to admit that when I first started commenting after years of lurking, I used to worry that others would confuse my user name for somebody else (nobody in particular) and they would pick fights with me thinking I was some asshole they didn't like.

(This was probably because around that time, I had a IRL doppelganger in Chicago who I was often confused for.)

Now, when this topic comes up, my fear is that I'm the asshole others get confused for. Progress? Perhaps.
