What are some Spotify Playlists made by Mefis? December 12, 2014 3:27 PM   Subscribe

Over the last year or so, I have absolutely loved every spotify album made by mefis. It is always a high quality compilation.

Most recently I have enjoyed Melancholy 'Mas, and before it was the Mefi Butts Playlist.

It seems like the best playlists aren't ones that people have already found from another source, but are a compilation of comments on a specific thread. Some of the added benefits are themes, or a reason to compile the list.

What Spotify compilation of comments threads have you seen and remembered fondly?

I did one of these in 2012 for a thread on The People's Song Book. "These hard-hitting, hard-times songs are participation songs, mass-singing and mass-action songs, unity songs, marching songs, fighting songs. Singing them, each of us feels that he is not alone but that the many are singing and marching and fighting beside him."

My wife enjoyed this 1986-1991 R&B Summer Jams list, which came from this thread. Come to think of it, even I, R&B ignoramus that I am, thought it was pretty fun when she played it in the car.

dst made a Scottish music playlist based on this thread. That playlist is a very nice distillation of the highlights of the thread. I kind of went bananas on Spotify Scottish rock and made a longer list.

Here's one called "Massive Writing Playlist" which I always liked, even though I'm not a writer... and I'm actually not 100% sure this person is a Mefite. It's good, though. Although I don't have spotify anymore, I'd listen to it if I still could.

I've got a dumping ground of a playlist called Alabamiana that's whole records by artists, bands and groups from my home state. It's got everything from soul to rock to hip-hop, but it's mostly thinking-and-drinking guitar rock a la Drive-By-Truckers. Couple hundred songs. Good to put on shuffle while driving beneath those Southern pines.

Ok, over 400 songs because I just added the complete Hank Williams recordings to it

So Long, Farewell, Goodbye songs from this request.

AskMe's songs for reading (compiled from a couple of AskMes; mostly post-rock and ambient without vocals). Still evolving.

(And I made a YouTube playlist from the 100 famous guitar riffs in one take FPP.)

My "excellent stuff" playlist. You probably need to be older than dirt to appreciate it!

Is it possible to get a playlist (in some form) made from Spotify links in metafilter/ask comments, like we do with Amazon, Youtube, and Wiki links? If not, is there a way (or does there exist) a shared Metafilter playlist for continuous hive-mind tapping?

From this question about motorik songs for running, I created this playlist. The playlist has a bunch of other running tracks in it, and is not edited in any way, so the best thing to do is just play it on random.

That would be awesome and in the meantime, I put a couple mixes listed on the mefi wiki (Which i can't access or link to since i'm at work right now..., thanksfilter!)

Ha! I wondered why I was getting Spotify follows. (I made the Butts playlist.)

Here's another one I made from an AskMe thread: You Suck, via AskMe.

And here's the one I'm most proud of: Witchy Ladies of Metal.

Inspired by all the great music made by women in the NPR 2014 list, here is my All Chicks All Eras All Genres playlist. From Clara Butt to Sharon van Etten to Jean Grae and then somewhere else.
