Huzzza. Each post is a story and history. You sir, are better then 60 minutes and Smithsonian.
Also, a personal model on how to weave a topic into a post par excellence.

"Joined: October 2, 2008", so that's 1000 posts in 6 years and 3 months, or about 2,280 days, or a post almost-every-other-day. Whew. No wonder he had to move to Albuquerque. :)

whoo- hoo! 🎉 Intense, dizzying rate of pace for posting excellent FPPs. Well done flt. (are you a trust-fund baby? seriously how do you find the time?) BTW you seemed to pull out all the stops for the December posts contest...

flt's posts are easily one of my favorite things about MetaFilter. Erudite, thoughtful, and fascinating at every turn. I salute you, sir.

I've long wondered if we're dealing with a filthy thief or if filthy light is stolen. Maybe it is a filthy thief who does not weigh very much?
posted by ambient2 at 9:33 PM on January 4, 2015

All at once I suppose?
posted by clavdivs at 9:41 PM on January 4, 2015 [2 favorites]

Thanks, one and all! I'd only consider my posts here work if I didn't enjoy them, and I've had a blast. Seriously, MetaFilter is my outlet for my passing obsessions and interests, and I'm so happy I've found it and y'all. But I must confess I got a bit obsessed with numbers towards the end, trying to get #1000 before the new year, and with this arbitrary goal reached, I'll be dialing it back.

> Imagine there's a zero after this emoji 💯 and it was on your profile page
I only see a null character box in both Chrome and Firefox, but it seems it should be a Hundred Points Symbol. These modern emoji baffle and confuse me. I remember when everyone was bald and yellow.

> This calls for fireworks
My preferred fireworks soundtrack

> I've long wondered if we're dealing with a filthy thief or if filthy light is stolen. Maybe it is a filthy thief who does not weigh very much?
Hmm, I hadn't thought about it that way. To ruin this particular mystery, it's a mis-remembered quote from a Slashdot comment, and I said as much in my profile, until ErWenn actually tracked the comment down:
dirty air thieves (people who live), dastardly noise thieves (people with ears), horrific light thieves (photographers)

if you don't pay for it it's a sin, viva extremist capitalism!
As I wrote in my profile, I feel more filthy than horrific, so I feel the handle is fitting.

filthy light thief has successfully made 1000 posts.

so if he's even remotely similar to me, there must another 333.333333 floating around out there that just couldn't pass the filter ...

filthy light thief is easily one of my favorite posters here on MeFi. If it's a deeply researched, link heavy post about a topic I never realized I needed to explore before the moment I saw it here, it's nearly always a flt post. I have so much admiration and appreciation, and my life is much more rich for even taking a cursory walk through the posts attached to flt that is is difficult to explain the effect his MetaFilter presence has had on my life.

You are indeed filthy, my unmet friend. In exactly all the right ways.

I can now confess to making no less than 6 stunt posts (for varying qualifications on the term "stunt")

1. The Proclaimers, a lot more than I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) -- my 500th post
2. Vallhund: The little cattle dog of the Vikings -- my 501st post, where the sole link above the fold was to a page with this one image (and a lot of text), in response to a challenge to make my next post "just a photo of a not particularly shaggy dog"
3. 808 State, interpreted through steel drums, and a brass band -- my 808th post
4. 808state:psychoecstatictranceenducinggrooveridingtechnofunkalogicalsound -- my 909th post, made on August 8th (8/08), posted at 3:03 AM GMT
5. Shake off that winter chill with some URSULA 1000! -- my 1000th post
6. recite to us some new story... to while away the waking hours of night -- my 1001st post, on The Thousand and One Nights.

Number 8 should not have been deleted: "Lasciate ogne speranza, voi che invia due volte". Bad spelling and bad Italian grammar invalidate the deletion.

I cringe when I remember my stunt post era, it was the early days of being a n00b on the blue. Way before I had a clue about site culture. Ended up driving the MeTa that was opened on my behaviour crazy by grinning like a goofball through it instead of feeling abashed at raising the ire of the community.

To direct attention and accolades to others, here's the Infodumpster list of top posters, which notes a few milestones reached in the past few months by various folks:

The 700 Club: zarq and stbalbach (The Whelk is close, but not there yet).

600 and counting: flapjax at midnite, the man of twists and turns, fearfulsymmetry, and MartinWisse.

500 ain't nothing to sneeze at: Kattullus, Fizz, and madamjujujive.

Anyway, post counts are just a number. It's the tiny butterflies inside your belly that really matter.
