Favorites on the Front Page April 24, 2015 8:27 AM   Subscribe

I'm not a tech person so this may be a dumb question, but why don't favorites that I add stay displayed on the front page?

What I mean is, I can go to the MeFi main page, favorite a post and then go read it, but when I go back to the MeFi main page there's still the "+" for marking it as a favorite. If I click the + it says "You already made this a favorite."

Is there a way to keep showing which ones I've already marked as favorites? It's confusing and sometimes I find myself trying to favorite the same posts over and over again.

Not a dumb question at all. We set it up that way to keep the front page fast for members. Every trip to the database adds to the time it takes for the page to render. So we skip grabbing that data on the front page to make it just a bit faster. We have a lot of other data on the page (like Contact Activity) that takes time to assemble and it all adds up.

We felt like the worst case is someone gets a message that they've already added something to favorites. It's annoying, but potentially less annoying than a slower front page.

Thanks! Yes, it's a little annoying but really no big deal.

I used to find that annoying too. Now I think of it as a comfort, as in "hey, your taste in FPPs hasn't changed since you liked this six hours ago...good for you."
