Dungeons & Mefites? September 30, 2015 4:10 AM   Subscribe

Would MeFites be interested in a MetaFilter RPG community on Google+ (or some other forum if you have it)?

With the number of D&D posts on the rise, and the recent Call of Cthulhu post, I think that it'd be fun to link up with some of you MeFite types for roleplaying talk outside of the Blue. I was thinking maybe a Google+ community that folks could join would be a good way to do it, since that would let us share stuff and do Hangout games (and Roll20 is fully integrated into Hangouts). I'd be open to other suggestions as well, but if folks are up for it I could set up a community. Thoughts?

MeFightClub might be the place?

You might want to check out this recent-ish MeTa if you haven't already seen it. It's more geared towards setting up actual games/campaigns, but a fair number of those folks might be interested in an ongoing forum. Personally, I tend to not be super reliable at keeping up with forums other than MeFi, but I am interested in play-by-post or play-by-email type games, so if it serves as a resource for setting up those sorts of things, I am in favor of the idea.

Since I often find myself wishing the Blue had *more* D&D posts, I think I should be counted as interested in this proposition.

I am also in favor of this idea.

(Also MFC is great and all but sort of hard to hang out on while at work.)

You might want to go for slack or other tools that let people maintain their pseudonymity.

There's no more real names requirement on G+.

I would consider something like this! I already play a real-life D&D game with mostly MeFites and would be excited to play another. I would sort of prefer not Google Plus but I don't know what to suggest instead.

Slack is one idea.

For anyone who wants to jump on in Google Plus, there is now the MetaFilter Tabletop RPG Club community. Don't let that stop any non-plussers from also doing cool RPG stuff elsewhere though!

This is a good idea, but you should really have presented yourself as a cowled figure sitting at the back of the inn puffing silently on a pipe.

I joined the G+ group! It is quite literally the only thing I have ever done with G+, so I hope I will remember to check it periodically.

DID YOU SEE WHAT THEY DID TO WARHAMMER FANTASY BATTLE

I...just know this is something that is going to fill with me hate and despair, but now that you've said it, I have to ask....what did they do? What have they done???

I believe there is a quite active RPG subcommunity on MefightClub already (I have trouble keeping up with everything that goes on there) and has been for years, so what Zarkonnen said: all are welcome.

As with the recent MeTa thread announcing a new Minecraft server for MeFites -- the discussion was ported over to MFC eventually -- when this thread closes or if G+ doesn't suit, again: all are welcome. And I won't even try to leverage your personal data for advertising purposes!

I'd be interested, but I haven't played in ... like 18 years or so... I think I've got 3rd edition rules somewhere that I'm not sure if I've ever done anymore than read through. My wife would probably like a reason for me to still have my nearly complete selection of 2nd ed campaign and class books to be taking up space in the garage that I refer to as 'source material' and 'inspiration'.

Remember: If you have to ask, you can't eat it. This should prevent you from having to roll up too many characters.

Very much torn between my great desire to join in and the fact that I have no free time at all.
Slack sounds like an interesting platform.

Also I'd like to point people towards Storium, which is a narrative heavy role playing platform that I've had some fun games on before.

In the last thread about role playing games, picea helpfully created a spreadsheet for people to register their interest. There are separate tabs for GMs and Players. Plenty of interest in play-by-post, if a GM or two want to step up.

Ooh, I haven't worked with slack - would it be a good thing for game organization? I'd totally give that a shot.

I'm in the middle of a project to convert my old Attack of the Beautiful Princesses module (AD&D 2, then DND 3.x, just could not bend to fit dnd4) into DND Next (5e? What is the final designation). One of my friends convinced me that I really needed a princess for every class, instead of just enough to fill a table at a convention and... wow, it's becoming a thing.

I've tried MeFightClub and it always felt more computery gamey to me, but maybe I didn't try hard enough.

True for me as well. My other problem is that I haven't played a TSR system game since AD&D was current. It would be fun to be a spectator though, if possible and people, players and GM are ok with that.

It very much is, and PC-centric at that, but discussion of anything broadly game-related (and much that isn't) is totally fine.
