Isn't this the sort of thing that could be abused quite spectacularly? I'm leery of putting "things that will mail a random person" on my sites.

Whats with this new style of talking that is popping up on the Filter? I'm not sure I like it.

nah, I decided long ago not to do this feature. It's ripe for abuse, offers only marginal help beyond copy and pasting it yourself, and I never personally enjoyed receiving this type of mail in the first place.

It seems downright weird to get random anonymous copies of things like full Yahoo news stories via email. It's much more helpful if a friend copy and pasted the URL and wrote a couple sentences explaining why I should check the story out.

How about, hang around a bit longer to see how things work around here before you embarrass yourself with asking moot questions. Metafilter was here before you showed up. Before you ask a question such as this one noises, think "could it have occurred to those who have been there for some time to implement X? If I don't see that feature then, it must not have been important enough to implement." I think, it's a good rule of thumb that at least I use, when approaching a new on or offline community.

And this tone of mine of course, is not meant to drive you off. You're welcome here, as is anyone. Just do yourself a favor and at least show interest in learning the ropes that we climb and do tricks from around here.

Looks like a lot of really good reasons for not doing it. But geez. Tough crowd.

Pay no attention to crasspastor, noises, that's why he calls himself, uh, crass.

Your idea is a nice thought, (I've thought of it as a feature too) but, as Mr. Haughey mentions, it would be rife with abuse. Do like I do and paste the URL in an email. This technique avoids abuse and avoids making more work for the Haughey, and it also adds that personal touch.

Ooooohhh. Now I just wanna argue about my stupid nickname. Bring it the fuck on evan.

Oh shit. Hi noises. I wasn't trying to be a dick as evan would have you believe. We are simply politically polar opposites. Welcome to MeFi.

Gimmick posters are annoying (or at least they became so after clavdivs appeared, upon which the mold was broken). This remains to be said.

Since I have now said it, I will exit, browser-left.
