I just posted my 10,000th comment to MetaFilter.
I’ve been a member of this site for 16 years, six months and five days (and joined up during the “limited number of first-come-first-served memberships every day” era after reading a profile of mathowie in Shift Magazine), so if my membership were a person it would be in high school and learning to drive by now. It’s basically (a couple of short breaks aside) been my only Home On The Internet ever since. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, and it’s always been better than Cats. I’ve met a bunch of you at meetups in two countries, and I’m a richer person for it. Many thanks to all of you – Mefites and mods – who make and help keep this place the way it is.
Here’s what I’d like to mark the occasion; links to one of your favourite MetaFilter (or AskMe, etc.) comments; happy, sad, funny, poignant, weird…whatever you like. Here’s mine.

I don't know that it was secret...if I remember correctly, there was a link posted to MeTa every day at the same time and if you were one of the first 50 (?) people to click on it you could sign up. It took several days of this before I finally got through, and, well, here I am.

Just had to decide which of Wordshore's comments to link.
Horse fucking is a classic of the genre, and while I can't decide on an all-time favourite, I think that's a solid choice.

Agree that there are too many good ones to pick a best, or even 5 or 10 best, so I'll just toss up this one I found by clicking on page 8 of my favorites. I think of it often when I slice cheese.
