Updated link for closed thread? July 30, 2003 12:21 PM   Subscribe

What does one do with an updated link for something that's already been posted, after the thread's been closed? (More inside...)

(Sorry, got some sort of cookie error when I tried to post the "more.")

I stumbled across a site that appears to be the active, ongoing successor to something that was posted about a year ago. That thread is closed, so I can't post the new link there, but it'd be a double-post to do a new FPP.

Is there a policy on updating bad/outdated links? Should I email Matt? Or What?

Usually what one does is:

a) Make a post in MetaTalk asking just this question.

b) Listen to various ambiguous recommendations (1: Make a new post!, 2: No one cares!, 3: Get a blog!, 4: 111 is a troll!, 5: Pike pike pike *chortle*).

c) Find no consensus.

d) Retire to Sealand.

e) Wait for someone else to wonder the same thing.

f) See a).

In conclusion: Make a new post, no one cares, get a blog, 111 is a troll, pike pike pike.

*chortle*

Oh, for chrissakes, it was working when I posted it. Posting about this has given me more trouble than it's worth! (The cans! He hates these cans! Everybody get away from the cans!)
Damn.

Well, the question still stands: What does one do when one finds a archived link has gone bad and a replacement can be found (providing it doesn't self-destruct after being discovered)?
posted by me3dia at 2:18 PM on July 30, 2003

The obvious answer, me3dia, is "nothing at all".

This is the funniest discussion ever. Really.

Sorry I didn't answer it earlier, but usually the best thing to do is email me, since I'm the only person that can help. If it's important enough of a change, I'll make it and regenerate the old page (This is the best Pizza-in-a-Cup I've had, nothing like the old Cup-of-Pizza).

You are my favorite person of the day for quoting that.

I was actually half-considering posting a Metatalk thread asking 'what's up with all the followup threads lately, what is this, followupfilter, jeezly cripes!' or something along those lines, but then I got distracted by a shiny thing and forgot.

I've got the shiny thing! I've got the . . . Hey! Get away! It's mine! Mine! HEY! MooooOM! The mean MeFites took my shiny thing away!

I'm picking out a thermos for you
Not an ordinary thermos for you
But the extra best thermos you can buy
With vinyl, and stripes, and a cup built right in

I'm picking out a thermos for you
And maybe a barometer too
So what else can I buy
So on me you'll rely, a rear-end thermometer, too

Goodnight!

No, no, no - let's splurge, bring us some fresh links, the freshest you've got, this year, no more of this old stuff.

Nah, I'm still in Korea (where there are many shiny things) for the moment at least. More's the pity...

Stav, shouldn't it have read "many things shiny"? It sounds...you know, classier.
