the genius of MeFi, to me, is the flat interface.

therefore, what would y'all think (and mainly Matt) about changing the form of MetaTalk so it's just one page (with a topic line in the post footer or header, if you want it)? it sure would make it easier to keep up, in my mind. sometimes i forget the last time i read and have to open the thread to see.

Yeah, I was thinking of this a while back. Rewrite MetaTalk to look exactly like a categorized version of metafilter, basically the same layout, but with little links telling you what section it's from.

I heartily second this. MeFi's interface is too good. Without it, MetaFilter would only be as addictive as crack. It's the good looks that put it ahead.

I third this request. I find Metatalk much more difficult to read than Metafilter. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I'd love a return to a totally flat interface. But the categories are too good of an idea to drop.

Ooh, and would that mean there'd be sessioning and new-post indicators that worked just like those on MeFi? That would be happy. (While once upon a time, MetaTalk threads had strange and unreliable # new indcators; now nothing claims to be new. Or is it just me?) I too long for a flat layout for MT.

Hm, I take it back; now I see a post I just made as new. Maybe it's just an illusion arising from all the confusion my feeble brain experiences in response to the multi-page layout of MetaTalk. If so, all the more reason to go to flat, I say!

Yes, please! You can count me among those in favor of the proposal.
