Metafilter in the Media March 7, 2001 2:10 PM   Subscribe

Would it be too, I don't know...conceited to create a press page that keeps track of mentions of metafilter in the media? Sometimes it's nice to re-read good writeups of the site when it's 2am, and I'm at the end of my rope, responding to the umpteenth request for a new feature :).

I think it would be an excellent idea, especially considering that your future employment and credentials may rest upon the success of MeFi. Perception is often as powerful as actual ability. MeFi creates an aura of mystique about "Matt Haughey - Media Baron".

Hell no! Matt, you need to do more to show what a really incredible, positive, (dare I say it?) damn near magical thing you've made here.

I was having a conversation recently and came to the conclusion that modesty is out. Shameless self-promotion is in, especially if you actually have something to promote.

Go for it, Matt...

good. now I'll need everyone's help digging up the mentions. I can remember the two or three most recent ones, but that's about all.

Gimmie a couple days, and I'll setup a press thread that people can find stuff from, and post links to.

Dear Media Baron, (or is that "Mr." Howie these days).

When/if we find mentions, how shall we post them - what if the mention isn't linkable, just post a relevant snippet with attribution?

c'mon - c'mon - peer pressure, peer pressure. everyone's doing it. it's the *cool* thing.

Matt, you've worked hard on this - no need to wonder if you should be able to take credit for it.

Granted, WE do make up the content, but there are lots of places for people to write and post links. Don't be bashful because you got it right.

Matt: I think it'd be kinda cool just to see what the media has to say (and how often) about the MeFi community, but ultimately, it's your show.

Thanks for asking though!

It's just a natural progression. A mention, here, a mention there, now a whole ARTICLE about MeFi from Slate...

It's fairly simple. Kokogiak's got it right. The reason Yahoo's stock trading was halted? Matt's getting bought out, just like EGroups, er, I mean, Yahoo! Groups!
