Comment text disappearing after preview. June 8, 2001 6:51 PM   Subscribe

Editing weirdness. Is it just my lack of standards compliant browser (all I ask for is a browser that is compliant, supports imap mail and runs on linux) or what? Tried to post a comment and previewed. Last night there was nothing to edit "below" and back erased everything. Today at one point I could edit below, then I couldn't although back left text in place. Neither seems to be true here (talk not mefi).

You might try hitting Reload instead of Back, but of course I've never seen this problem... What browser are you using? I'm sure that whatever it is, it supports the TEXTAREA form tag...

Can't vouch for what I did last night. Today I'm still getting no text "below" after a preview, but input is not erased either with back or reload (marked improvement). Using Netscape 4.5 and 4.76(?) at various times.

Did you see the three lines at the bottom when you don't get the TEXTAREA didn't come up? By that I mean the two metafilter links and two lines of copyright at the bottom of each page.

Screenshot?

The input being erased when you back up your browser is just a local cache thing and nothing in particular to do with metafilter (whether your browser caches form data in your history).

Three lines at the bottom, although the first is not the two metafilter links but "Home About ... Login". This is what it looks like. Same in metatalk.

yeah that happens to me too, sometimes but not always. I've taken to copying all my text before I preview, it's a kludge, but works. netscape 4.75/imac.

I do that too--copy my whole text--if I'm doing any clicking around while I'm composing a post. Sometimes I even paste it into an external file just to be safe. When browsers do and don't cache form data is just too undefined.
