Something like a favorite would be awesome December 5, 2004 9:17 PM   Subscribe

I have no idea if this is something other people would want or if it would be easy enough to do...

But I would love it if there was some way to tag threads where it would show up on my profile page or become listed on another page, anything like that. Basically a way of bookmarking a thread without bookmarking it. Does that make sense? I recall someone mentioning how they do this by posting a comment in the thread so that thread will show up on their contributions page, but that is not a very good solution if you have nothing useful to say.

Maybe there would be a way to do it with a bookmarklet or something (knows little to nothing about this) if not something coded into the site itself?

I have 500+ Metafilter bookmarks and growing, that just isn't the best solution.

Are you looking for some functionality that is not already provided by del.icio.us? You could create a separate account specifically for MeFi bookmarks...

In case you don't really get the whole del.icio.us thing, this beginner's guide shows you how to get the most out of it.

This has been requested to death. I believe it's on matt's "to do" list but am not sure.

Use del.icio.us or just post "Thanks for the link!" inside. It's pretty accepted that that's what that's for and you don't have anything else to comment.

On preview...

I spent thousands of words prodding annoyingly at mathowie for something similar a while back (try searching for 'de.licio.us' in Metatalk maybe, and good luck), and I think the end result was 'yes, later, maybe, in one form or another, if you're lucky' as I recall.

Matt has done a deal with someone to refactor the codebase (ooh, don't I sound all devheady!) and merge the changes through the 3 current *filters, so presumably after that project is all bedded down, new features like this may eventually start popping up. Maybe. If we're lucky.

yeah, marking threads is definitely something I'd like to do real soon now.

Plenty of people piss all over them already. It would be nice to make it official. That's why you meant, right? ;)

Thanks. I had seen del.icio.us but not that guide. And yeah, kinda missed the entire point of the site the first time around. Sounds more interesting to me now. I'll mess around with that for the time being.

That's why tabbed browsing is teh_awesome. I just leave the tabs open and hit reload.

Yeah, del.icio.us is a great service, but the site doesn't really sell itself very well.

I add my thanks -- I had no idea what del.icio.us was all about.

This pony is to save that information across sessions and on different machines. K5 does it really well with their hotlist. Also it acts like a string on your finger. Example: Matt asked a while ago for suggestions when visiting Hawaii. I found it very useful even though I'm still in the collecting airmiles stage. A year from now when I need this information I might not be able to remember which comunity I saw it on. But with a link in my hotlist I'd be reminded over and over and would not have to play google bingo.
