Fuck the fucking fuck. Fuckity fuck fuck fuck.

I think that pretty much captures the spirit of the original...

I like the new kid on the block. More tqk, less of this Entertainment Weekly style crap.

Kids, just say no to drugs.

The effect was perfect mostly because of where it was placed in the thread.

I was reading the article, went back to the thread, started reading the comments, and there was the usual same-sex marriage jokes that would be expected, some kind of funny, most of them lame, then out of nowhere there's this spasm of obscenity, sticking out like a shirt wiener on a warm sunny day in downtown Minneapolis.

I felt the planets align and my investments accrue. I felt my bowels depressurize. It was beautiful.

That one was good, too, but it would've been better had it not followed the comment I linked.

If this guy was an "A-Lister" weblogs would be good reading.

I went through all of his posting history after seeing that. There's one or two real gems buried in there, but I think that's probably the best of the lot.

He's like Maddox with more "fuck".
posted by clevershark at 8:52 PM on August 12, 2005

This is more than "fuck". There's timing. Lack of context. I don't understand why you people are so uncultured.

He's from Monkeyfilter, for those of you who must compile all his quips, and yeah, he's a funny one.
posted by furiousthought at 9:17 PM on August 12, 2005

as with most performance art, it's breakthrough and hilarious the first couple times and I enjoyed it as well.

If it's a daily thing, I could see it getting old real quick though.

angry modem: I agree that over the top stuff like this is a welcome change of pace from time to time - my fear is that glorifying this will lead to pale imitations that will clog the pipes.

I'm assuming you are referring to a shirt tail sticking out

I'm honestly puzzled that everyone liked this comment. I thought it was stupid noise, and I flagged it as such.

Perhaps you have no soul.
posted by Kwantsar at 5:24 AM on August 13, 2005

There can be no "noise" in a swan-on-swan loveathon thread... It was colour and, much like with a Mondrian, the right colour, in the right place can make an otherwise dull-as-ditchwater thread. And also like with a Mondrian, it looks easy to do but is actually fucking hard to do it right. So I won't try...
posted by benzo8 at 5:58 AM on August 13, 2005

That second comment is genius - it'd make a great stand-up bit - but [shrugs] it's also noise. danb's comment captures it:

I've posted MeFi entries on my site before, but never just a comment. I didn't even mention what the FPP was about.

Because it didn't matter what the FPP was about. Right now, it's about getting people to notice the quidnunc kid. And the first "notice ME, the quidnunc kid!" derail was strange; for a second I took it as idiotic homo-hating. A little of that goes a long way. And quidnunc's already re-using his material. That "hi! frist comment! great site!" stuff is starting to look just a teensy bit desperate.

Isn't it just "The Spanish Inquisition" joke from Monty Python but with "fuck" in it? It's still funny to me (not quite coffee spewingly funny), but it is derivative.

(cue some fucking fuck pointing out how un-fucking-funny I am, fuckers).
posted by longbaugh at 7:05 AM on August 13, 2005

The second comment is a cover of Monty Python's "Spanish Inquisition" mixed with profanity. As such, it's a little boring.

On preview: longbaugh you fucking fuck. And it's not like the comment wasn't there before; I just found it on preview.
posted by yerfatma at 7:40 AM on August 13, 2005

I've almost never seen a comment that was as liked as it was despised. It seemed like a Monty Python reference to me too, thanks for the cite longbaugh.
posted by jessamyn at 7:52 AM on August 13, 2005

Ximinez: NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again.

No, no, the comment is Python-esque, but I don't think Spanish Inquisiton is the one you are looking for.
posted by jaronson at 8:00 AM on August 13, 2005

What's an Inquisiton? Is it some sort of quantum physics thing?

I'm really feeling the Saturday-ness right now.
posted by longbaugh at 8:43 AM on August 13, 2005

It was brilliant. The timing, the tone of voice, the delivery.
Am I gushing? Sorry.

Man, if another dong_resin or Stan Chin showed up tomorrow half of you would drive him out with torches what is wrong with you people. I'm telling you.
posted by furiousthought at 9:12 AM on August 13, 2005

I thought it was stupid noise, and I flagged it as such.

No way, that was comedy gold. Not just the timing, but the syncopation of the meter: highly structured while at the same time "off-the-top-of-my-head."

I also liked the second comment, particularly the long paragraph at the end about the ineffectiveness of running up to someone and yelling "THAT;" it's a grand setup for the last couple of lines. Very well-executed.
posted by Civil_Disobedient at 9:13 AM on August 13, 2005

I think the quidnunc kid is great; I've been following his act since his MonkeyFilter days, and he has an uncanny ability to push out to the very border of repugnant asininity and then blow a smoke ring out of his ass that's so perfect you'd follow him across the border and into the jaws of hell. C'mon, Sarge Quidnunc, let's go get them stinkin' Albanians!

...uh, there aren't any Albanians here, are there?...

See, that's why I'll never be a quidnunc kid—I worry about crap like that. I just hope he doesn't start getting serious and losing his touch, like Lenny Bruce and Dick Gregory and quonsar.

Also, what odinsdream said.

posted by fleacircus at 4:00 PM on August 13, 2005

fleacircus: originality is not a criterion for humor! if it was, there'd be no comedians. get back on the hipster bus with your 'trite', and leave the fun to people who like to laugh.

A fantastic set of comments/performance piece. Thanks for pointing it out, Angrymodem.

Is MonkeyFilter like the MeFi farm team?

It was founded as a refuge for MeFi lurkers waiting for membership to reopen. Many MoFites joined up here as soon as they could (though the majority of them still participate more there than here), but the quidnunc kid held back until he could find us at our most vulnerable, then - WHAM!

MonkeyFilter: The Toledo MudHens of the Web.

I think there's still a little bit of quonsar around here somewhere, but not as much as there used to be. I'd like about 30% more.

And about 10% less "fuck you".
