How To Check Youtube Region Blocking
I occasionally see comments about youtube being blocked by region. There are ways for posters/commentors to check preemptively, or for the site to do so with some dev work. [more inside]
Ways to make posts more accessible for neurodivergent folks
FPPs whose links are only to videos aren't very accessible to many neurodivergent people. Many people aren't aware of this. Wondering how to make things better here on Metafilter. [more inside]
Site Update #2, 2020
Hello again, Metafilter! It's time for another update on the state of the site. Comments are turned off for these, but we’re happy to hear from you via the Contact Form. If you want to discuss a particular subject with the community, you’re welcome to open a separate MetaTalk thread for it. [more inside]
Rules for new accounts for existing users?
A few months ago I got into an regrettably poor discussion with another user in mefi mail. During the course of that discussion it became clear the user was an older user with a new account. I asked why they were using a new account and the answer was essentially: "because I want too". This seemed very different from the still current FAQ answer about new accounts which says that the only legitimate reason to change your username was a "Grave or life threatening reason". All about sockpuppets, privacy accounts, Brand New Day, and other multiple-mefi account things
Hey there! No big thing, but it's time for a general reminder post about what's okay and what's not with sockpuppets, alternate accounts, Brand New Days, and other multiple-accounts-related stuff on Metafilter. [more inside]
Does Meta/Ask have a 'Trigger' etiquette for posts?
Is there a 'triggering' etiquette here? If so what is it, because I can't find any reference to tagging posts as 'triggering' on the FAQ. [more inside]
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
There are a TON of Ask Me questions about basic home networking problems -- setting up wireless, why is my cable modem not working, how do I set up a wireless bridge, etc. Is anyone interested in working on a wiki page with common troubleshooting stuff related to that? Is that something that even should go on the metafilter wiki?
Spies from the future
I think that there ought to be a caveat somewhere about AskMe questions, pseudonymity, privacy, and social network scraping tools. [more inside]

Is this chatfilter?
Why is this question not chatfilter? I re-read the FAQ and the question seems to be the definition of chatty and open-ended. [more inside]

What's the best way to search for a post on MetaFilter?
Howdy. I'm searching for a post that I think was made here awhile back of people carrying ridiculous amounts of stuff while riding a bike. I can't find it [maybe it wasn't here]. Anyway, in the course of searching for it I also took a gander through the FAQ in the hopes that I could find information on the best way to search MeFi... [mi]

Can we link the FAQ from the header?
I was having trouble figuring out how long I needed to wait before I posted again. I eventually found it in the FAQ, and that's all well and good, but I found the FAQ itself difficult to find. Sure, it's linked at the bottom of the various MeFi sites, but only on MeTa is it linked at the top. That's an issue for people like myself that mostly read MeFi through the RSS feed and don't normally scroll through the site to the bottom. Heck, I didn't even know the footer existed prior to today! So my request is to link to the FAQ from the header on the sites that don't currently have it there.
FAQ launched
I just launched the FAQ engine I wrote a few weeks ago. It's got just a few questions in it and it hasn't been organized yet, but if you're logged in, feel free to suggest new questions at the bottom of the page, which me and jessamyn will review, organize, and post later on. For now, it's just starting out, but I'm sure we can fill this out and organize it into something useful for everyone in just a few weeks.
Pony Request: A MetaFilter FAQ whose answers are links to the relavent MetaTalk threads
Pony Request: A MetaFilter FAQ whose answers are links to the relavent MetaTalk threads that answer the question.
Many redundant questions keep coming up in MetaTalk and the responses are usually links to MetaTalk threads that will answer the question. Would it be possible to make a FAQ that points to the appropriate MetaTalk threads for these reoccurring questions? Maybe someone can go through MetaTalk once a week and add the questions and answers of things that shouldn't have to come up again.
Example:
Q. Some users have customized user pages, can I have a customized user page?
A: See here

Problems with the wiki / FAQs.
The Wiki/FAQ has been pornified. I'd revert it to a previous version but I can't seem to figure out how. Could someone who knows how this stuff works please revert it and then let us know how it's done? (AskMe or Meta, when in doubt take it to Meta)
Connection timeout members
A little bug on the front page. Top right reads "Connection Timeout members | You are logged in as ..." or merely "Connection Timeout members" if I'm not logged in.

Sidebar for Newbies?
Would it be possible to add a little sidebar in MetaTalk listing links to the Wiki for some of the more common questions, such as "What does '.' mean?" and "Why was my post deleted?"
What does it mean when someone posts just a period "."?
What does it mean when someone posts just a period "."?
What does the dot mean?
What's with the dots? Am I missing a really obvious tradition/in-joke?
What are all the posts that are just '.' in this thread?

Easing the transition for new users.
20 neophytes a day - and I'm one of yesterday's crop. Fresh-faced, clean-skinned...
As a Content Editor at Everything2, I'm intimately acquainted with the stickiness inherent in introducing new people to an online community (especially a content-oriented community, as opposed to activity-, hobby-, or interest-oriented ones). There seems to be a dearth of documentation. I guess this site is pretty self-explanatory, which is refreshing - I've been an E2 user for two and a half years and I still occasionally scratch my big, fat head. Also, after such a long, long time with no new users (I know it was a long time because I spent a long time checking the new user page), you guys must be experiencing something of a shock, too.
Any ideas as to what could be done to ease the transition for newbies and allay the angst, if any, of the old guard?
Feel free to kill this if I'm out of line, long-winded or otherwise. I'm a new at this.

Why was my post to badassbuddy.com deleted?
I posted a link on MeFi today to www.badassbuddy.com. It is a website that features tons of buddy icons for AOL IM. Matt took it down and I can't figure out why. Any ideas?
Can the stylesheet please be changed to not hard-code the point sizes for text?
This has to be an FAQ, but I couldn't find it anywhere:
Can the stylesheet please be changed to not hard-code the point sizes for text? I really would like to make the text smaller, and IE 5.5 won't ignore those absolute sizes. I hear Opera will, but I'm not ready to switch browsers.

MetaFilter FAQ.
I've made mumblings about this elsewhere, but I'm trying to compile a MetaFilter FAQ in the hopes that it'll help new users figure out just what the heck's going on here. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I don't know everything. You can find the raw XML file here. If there's anything you'd like to add, or seek clarification on or wish you'd known about when you started joining in the conversations, please let me know.
Also, let me know your MeFi username, e-mail address and URL (if you feel like sharing) so I can give credit where credit's due.
