If you are not signed in to the Facebook empire, Instagram will not show you any content. You can get a little (photo posts, abbreviated profile) if you are signed in to facebook but not Instagram, but if you have opted out of the whole ecosystem you get a login screen on instagram no matter what. This is my experience. Easily reproduced by using a private browsing window. I argue that walled off content not available on the open web should not be FPP material.
What Does The Man Have On You?
wenestvedt suggested we have a MetaTalk thread to discuss what our Facebook/Cambridge Analytica advertising profiles look like. Check Your Information > Your Categories, and also be sure to look at Hobbies and Interests. Besides being a fan of Cattle, Thought, Crop and Brick, I apparently have a mystery Housemate, perhaps lurking in my crawlspace.
Facebook as viewed by people who don't share your opinions
This is find-that-post filter: I'm pretty sure I read about this here, but searching is coming up dry. During the run-up to the 2016 election, a website appeared that showed, side-by-side, (then-)live news posts from "conservative Facebook" and from "liberal Facebook." It may have been built by or hosted by a major newspaper, like the Washington Post. Searching the web for "filter bubbles" isn't bringing up anything promising, and other search terms about Facebook and bias and the sitting US President are poisoned by the nonstop news stream over the past two years, and also the last two weeks. I am not on Facebook. I'm not going to be on Facebook. When a FPP consists of a single link to a Facebook page, it's not much use to me, since FB blocks half the page with a sign-up popup. Maybe posters could warn us private persons that we'd be wasting our time clicking on the link? Thanks.
Metafilter mentioned (and linked) at Fast Company
"Why Academics Are Incensed By Facebook's Emotion-Manipulating Social Experiment" by Chris Gayomali
Comments on Metafilter filled a spectrum ranging from "meh" to furious: "I don't remember volunteering to participate in this. If I had tried this in graduate school, the institutional review board would have crapped bricks."(See, was that so hard, New Yorker?)
The Heat Is On
So thanks to this MeTa I found (and "Liked", of course) the MetaFilter Facebook page. Upon reading said page, however, one of the terms from the "Related Searches" section stood out: "metafilter convection oven". I am very curious to find out now why this is apparently a popular enough search to show up on the Facebook page. Is this merely a glitch on Facebook's end or is there something about ovens that I really should know and y'all can tell me about? What am I missing out on here?

Facebook's Edit feature looks mighty perty; can I has edit comments plox?
Facebook has finished its roll-out of an edit feature for comments on wall posts/comments. If you have a Facebook account, I'd ask you to take a look at it. I think it works and would like to discuss why it could work on MetaFilter. [more inside]

Locked Out... ... and erased from the Internet!
I asked a question and nobody answered. I asked again, then jessamyn deleted my question. Do I have the right to ask a third time? [more inside]
Can I get a witness?
The offending link is, thankfully, gone, but I'd like a clarifying ruling from the mods on the policy of linking to user's private facebook (or G+, or what have you) discussions about other users, if that's not too much trouble. [more inside]

Thousands of moderators
Facebook has an open position for a Questions Community Manager. The text itself is pretty fascinating with superlatives like"anything you can dream up", "thousands of moderators" and "the full resources of Facebook at your disposal". I obviously thought about AskMe and Jessamyn, and she agreed it was an interesting Meta post. Knowing that communities start from the ground up, I am especially interested in thoughts about how such a gigantic operation can be handled, if it can at all. [more inside]
MeFi Failbook WIN
A six year old MeFi thread (one comment in particular) was mentioned in a Failbook entry. I think that was the last place I'd expected to see a MeFi reference.
MeFi / Facebook cross polination
As a traffic/stats nerd, I posted the P!=NP story today to my Facebook wall. That got me wondering, is a significant/noticeable amount of traffic on the Blue from non-member FB referenced visitors? [more inside]

Minor pony/bug relating to profile-page links to facebook. I'm on facebook but I don't have one of those fancy-dancy no-longer-so-new fb-specific usernames; my fb page is still index.php?profile=number. If I enter that on my user page as my facebook "name", the link doesn't work—the punctuation is encoded.

Has there ever been a meetup in Sweden? Are there enough of us to warrent a meet up or will the three of us just feel awkward? Maybe a Scandinavian combo? Malmö would be close enough for Danes to bridge, and for Norwegians to ski? (I keed)

Biblio is giving away pieces of flair!
I made you all some MetaFilter flair for Facebook. I admit to loving my shiny little flair buttons, and I was sad to see there weren't any MeFi ones to put next on my corkboard. So I made 3. They aren't works of art, but I think you'll like them. Just search for "MetaFilter" in the Pieces of Flair app. Enjoy!
It was the best of times, period.
Big huge, ginormous thanks and hugs to Metafilter in general and Konolia in particular. [more inside]
