flapjax at the Oxford American
I was delighted to see mefi's own flapjax at midnite--aka Samm Bennett--make a walk-on appearance in an article about blues music in Japan, in the Winter 2016 edition of The Oxford American.
MeFites in Texas, Ecuador, and Japan
Nature is being a real mother right now in Houston, Ecuador, and Japan. Just wanted to put out a quick note hoping that Mefites and their loved ones in these different regions are all doing well and staying safe, and to invite folks to drop lines if they are struggling.
Help me help myself by helping me!
Trying to remember an old post I THINK was on MeFi: basically a Japanese site with photos of unintentionally funny road signs. It was all in Japanese, and the one photo I can remember specifically had a "STOP" written along the center line of the road, so that the トマレ became トマレーーーーーーーー ("STOOOOOOOOOOOOP"). Does… does this ring a bell with anyone at all?
60: Quakes and QWOP
Our 60th podcast starts off with some amazing calls from MeFites in Japan. It ends on a slightly heavy note and we didn't have the calls recorded before we recorded our podcast, so you'll have to excuse the mods for not commenting on the calls (because they were an unknown at the time) and generally being jokey just after some Heavy Shit. Anyhoo, this contains recaps from SXSW and the best parts of the site during the month of March. It runs 1hr 15min long or so [more inside]
MeFi podcast: we'd like to hear from members in Japan
MeFites in Japan, we want to hear from you on the next podcast! After the devastating earthquake just a couple weeks ago, we've all worried about our members in Japan and it was great to see check-ins that things were mostly ok. We'd like to hear from mefites in Japan for the next podcast: call my new Skype Japanese number at (050) 5806-3941 and leave us up to a 90 second message letting everyone know what the quake was like, what the aftermath was like, and how the rebuilding it going. I know 90sec is short, so if you'd like to leave a longer story/message, you can always record a mp3 at home and just send us a link to download it on the contact form. Thanks! [more inside]

Another long, long, long essay about Japan
A followup to the now-closed thread about Tim Rogers' essay, "Japan: It's Not Funny Anymore": "The Life of Game: Why I Live In Japan".

Tokyo Meetup
vito90 calls for a Tokyo MeFi meetup somewhere between Oct 4-17. I'm happy to organize.
Please leave comments if you can/want to attend and if so, what days/times are good for you. For those who are living outside of Tokyo, Saturday nights may be better. But lets also consider a Wednesday or Friday night. My location recommendation would be Ebisu but we could also go check out the new location for The Pink Cow in Shibuya too.
