MetaAlternatives

Instead of Reddit I use MetaFilter. Instead of Twitter I use Mastodon. I'm interested in what your other alternative platforms are? I'm also interested in platforms like MetaFilter that are designed/maintained by people that are trustworthy. These choices matter because I'm trying my best to be a part of a more ethical/social platform and still stay connected with a digital community. What are your recommendations?

Adding mltshp and Ravelry support to profile page Social Apps

We're celebrating the launch of mltshp by adding it to the Social Apps options on profile pages (and deprecating mlkshk). While we're at it, we're also adding Ravelry support finally. Details inside! [more inside]

Can you help me find that thing that does that thing

I have a new computer, and I am reinstalling all my special bells and whistles. What's that handy little app that puts an arrow on the left-hand margin of MeFi posts, scrolling you down to wherever you last were in the thread? And how can I get it? [more inside]

What's wrong with just using Safari?

There is, in the iPhone app store, an app called MetaFilter Feeds (Unofficial) (iTunes link). The creators, Henlee Studios, are charging $.99 US for it. Something smells fishy. [more inside]

iPhone-filter (Metafilter App for iPhone))

I made a MetaFilter application for the iPhone using iPhone Apper. You can see a preview of the icon, and download it here. I found some super easy instructions for installing 3rd party applications on shauninman.com. If someone wants to take a better shot at it, you can use my Photoshop template. I hope others with iPhones get some use out of this-- I like having my favorite website within easy reach!

E-Quill could be the simplest killer app I've seen

jason mentioned this on his site, but E-Quill could be the simplest killer app I've seen in some time. It's IE 5+ (PC only too?) only, but is worth the install. It might just be the ultimate tool for metatalk about threads like this one
