2012 Presidential Prediction Contest Winner
Now that Florida has finished counting votes (always a challenge for us), the 2012 presidential election results are 332 electoral votes for Obama and 206 for Romney -- barring faithless electors. The popular vote is 50.6% Obama, 47.9% Romney and 1.5% other. The Nate Silver Medal for Political Prognostication goes to JKevinKing. J. Kevin was one of 15 people to tie for first in the electoral half of the contest with a perfect prediction. He finished third in the popular vote half, ahead of I am the Walrus and UrineSoakedRube who tied for ninth. The $50 Threadless gift certificate and life-size cardboard Joe Biden are on the way to JKevinKing as soon as I send them. Please keep Joe in the lifestyle to which he has become accustomed. Best comment contest
We should have a best comment contest. I don't know how it would be decided exactly, but presumably the mods have come up with some criteria for the best post contest, so perhaps they could be applied to comments.

Metafilter Runs v.3.1.
Web-goddess regained the Mefi distance running title (previous challenges : 1, 2). Amazingly, she racked up 77.21 kilometer in 14 days. Silver and bronze medals go to AJR (76k) and Sanjayafan (75k).
During the remainder of this month, we'll find out who's the fastest mefite (speed challenge over 5k). Previous participants have been invited to this new challenge via the Nike+ site. If you've got the Nike + Ipod sport kit and want in, post your Nike+ screenname in this thread.
Astronomy Day Contest?
What about an Astronomy Day post contest?
Maybe we could have metafilter music contests?
When I was younger I entered a lot of bi-weekly music competitions. During the first week people would make songs using only a provided pack of samples. The people who entered would vote on the best ones the second week. It gave me a lot of practice, I met a lot of new people, and it was fun. How about something similar for MetaFilter Music?

It would be fun to have some sort of halloween contest next Tuesday
It would be fun to have some sort of halloween contest next Tuesday. The most spirited post would win some sort of prize? What would the prize be? I suggest five pounds worth of candy shipped to the winning poster. What do you all think?
Unanswered AskMe Contest?
Yahoo! Answers UK 5 million answers challenge-a gimmicky promotion for a not-very-good service, but it gave me an idea:
What if we had a contest for unanswered AskMe questions (those that haven't had a best answer marked) older than, say, a month? Suggested prize: choice of free Metafilter account or $5 for each unanswered question that was resolved favorably. Of course we would need a special page where we could view lingering unanswered questions. Which would be a pretty decent idea anyway; I would certainly read it.

Hurry up and tell us the winners already
Sidebar says "CONTEST. Best post of the day wins $30, all August." Out of (by my count) 73 posts on August 23 and 24, there were none that were any good?
The contest results for August are all posted
The contest results for August are all posted here. There's a small marker at the end of the post noting the winners and the runner ups for each day (we'll pick three good ones, and one winner from that). So far, no one is putting their paypal info in their profile, so I haven't sent out one red cent, so get to updatin' your profile already (the paypal info isn't displayed anywhere on the site).
Best posts of the day
So, about this best post of the day thing.. are you announcing it on MeTa every day?
I think it would be kind of cool if you also highlighted it on Metafilter, ala AskMe favorited comments. That way, scrolling back a day or two on the front page I'll be able to tell the winning posts at a glance.

MeFi post contest?
How about a contest where candidate posts are judged on quality, the winner of which gets to be posted as item 50000? This would avoid the contention and possible server disruption likely to occur in the coming days, which will only be distracting, anyway. We could pre-emptively make this energy positive. Unless there are plans already, in which case, hurry up and delete this thread. (inspired by this comment)
End of projects grand opening contest
Just a reminder: The Projects grand opening contest ends today. If you were procrastinating, now's the time.

Charity contest idea
Last week's fundraiser became a sad debacle, and there's certainly no point retreading that ground. But I really like the idea of MeFites raising money for charity, and I think it's fun to make it a competition. I came up with an idea for a new, and hopefully friendlier and less divisive, contest for charity. I'd like to hear what you folks think. [more inside]
Scary Post Contest
Now that the other contest is over, and since we're building up to Halloween, what sort of contest can we come up with to encourage 11 days of the creepiest/scariest posts ever?
Stop closing dios vs. rothko contest criticism threads
Hey, Matt, everyone else doesn't think the contest is great. You might know that, of course, if you could manage not to close a thread as soon as you don't like the direction in which it turns. [mi]
matteo's commentary on the dios vs. rothko contest
"You guys have some sense of outrage over something that was a goof".
O.K., let's play, then, since it's such a funny a goof, apparently. I volunteer for the next MetaSurvivor round -- let's give my many MeFi friends a nice fat chance to vote me off the island. Two requests, though. 500 dollars are bad for my ego, let's make it 1,000. And I don't care enough about CreativeCommons (sorry!), so if you want to kick me out you have to donate to these guys. Who wants to play with me?

The dios vs. Rothko contest is over!
Holy crap, the BATTLE IS OVAH!!!
How about another Best Post contest?
I suggest we do another contest like amberglow's, on October 1 prehaps? There wouldd be no prizes from me but if someone else steps up and offers that would be ideal. I wont be posting anything because frankly I suck at posts lately. Anyone up to this? After all the crap/shit posts lately, we need happier MeFi days here!!
The blue is good lately!
Just a quick thumbs up to the MeFites - skimming the blue reveals a large number of posts that are, a. reasonably interesting and b. well supported with lots of links. I feel like Mefi has been consistently stronger of late, perhaps fallout from the 8/1 contest? Anyway, just wanted to spread some love.
Best of the Web, runner-up
Post any complaints about the contest or any nice compliments here. Be nice little trolls noe!!
anastasiav prize
anastasiav is offering cash moneya gift certificate for the best link posted on 1 August 2005, as judged by her.
sidebar getting dated
The election contest item in the sidebar is pretty old now. Is it still there for a reason?
