MeFi mod travelingthyme needs help
If you've noticed that moderator travelingthyme has not posted here recently, it's for a grave reason: while on a cross-country move, they were involved in a horrible accident that totaled their car, destroyed nearly all of their personal possessions, and tragically cost the life of their father. Now their friend has organized a GoFundMe to help cover medical bills, funeral arrangements, and replacement of everything from lost family keepsakes to household essentials (if you're in the Boston area, contact the organizer to donate items directly!). If you've found any value in this community in the last few years, travelingthyme is part of the reason why it's able to work -- please give what you can to help them recover from this terrible loss. Let's talk about mod deletion policy
I would very much like for the community to get a chance to opine regarding when and if mods should delete comments on Metatalk. [more inside]
Updating the graphical style of mod notes
We're introducing a new visual styling for moderator comments today! Instead of the older [small text and brackets style], mod comments will now feature a contrasting border, full-sized text, and for text browsers and screenreaders an explicit "Mod note:" text prefix to compensate for the lack of graphical cues. Closing Your Community Right: Jessamyn interviewed
A podcast where Jessamyn is interviewed by Patrick O'Keefe about the experiences around an online community (mlkshk) closing down and what happens afterwards. There is much on moderating, membership, community issues and service shuttering procedures within, as well as discussion of death/the passing of people, how this impacts on online communities and how moderators and community members deal with it. The page contains many MetaFilter-related links and a link to the transcript.
Hiring a part-time MetaFilter moderator
Happy news: we're hiring. Specifically, a part-time, mostly-weekends US daytime moderator to help add a little wiggle room to the current daytime schedule. Take a look at the Jobs post, and drop us an application if it sounds like a good fit. [more inside]

Please stop deleting my comments
In a thread apparently inspired by a comment I'd made elsewhere a few days ago, I have had a comment deleted. Hardly my first time, but what I don't understand is why mods delete comments presumably because they disagree with the content itself. I responded in-thread a few minutes ago, but Metatalk seems more appropriate. And I'm sure my in-thread comment has already been deleted. [more inside]

This post was deleted for the following reason: Metafilter is not a news site, and isn't the best spot for reporting every single new development on the OWS story; if OP or someone wants to work this news into a more in-depth MeFi sort of thing, that might work. -- taz [more inside]

Is Jessamyn a volunteer or paid?
"I don't know if she's paid or volunteer, but I damned sure wouldn't want to have jessamyn's job." Well, me neither -- I sometimes disagree with the judgement calls, but wouldn't want to be the one making them, and I don't see why anyone would volunteer for it. So is jessamyn paid?
