Why was my thread on the Greek govt outlawing games deleted?

Um...I posted a link a little while ago and now the thread is gone. Did I double-post or something bad and didn't know it? It was about the Greek government outlawing electronic games...

This is what MetaFilter should be like.

a truly outstanding thread. reminiscent of whatever 'metafilter golden age' era for which you pine. nearly all the discussion posts were well thought out, offered interesting perspectives gained through personal experience or outside reading; and many viewpoints were supported by unique and interesting off-site links. whether or not this topic grabbed your interest, this is the type of discussion we should always be striving towards. what can we do to encourage such behavior?

Help Me Find Defense Spending Thread

Help a guy out. I'm looking for a link to a website that was posted here a few months ago. It was a flash animation about what America could do as a country if it reduced its defense spending by 5%. I've searched and just can't seem to find the original thread. Can anyone help? Please?

number of new comments lost after reading thread

Sometimes, after viewing a thread in MetaTalk, when I hit the back button, the other threads lose the number of new messages since my last visit information. It doesn't seem to happen all the time. (Mac IE5)

Welcome to AOL

Maybe it's just me, but there are times when a thread seems to take on the conversational (and intellectual) tone of an AOL chat room.

Maybe long threads should be broken into chunks

Over the past couple of days, it's occurred to me that mefi does not scale particularly well when large numbers of comments are posted to a thread. I think that loading 100 comments or more makes for a fairly unwieldy webpage, and probably puts a lot of strain not just on the source database for the comments, but also the bandwidth of mefi. This inefficiency is particularly bad when it comes to such popular threads at the Kaycee ones that have been recently posted, as many people will be accessing it.

I think that comments should be cut up into some slightly more managable chunks. That is, rather than have all of the comments on the same page, they should be split up into groups of 25 or 30 comment pages; clicking on the "new comments" will take you to the correct page, thus bypassing most older comments, and the correct id on the page.

What do you think?
