Why is the username case inconsistent? October 16, 2005 8:29 PM   Subscribe

Nitpicking: The text that says "You are logged in as: Username" uppercases your username, while everywhere else in the site it keeps it in the original case.

Really? I think mine's lowercase.

mine tells me who I'm logged in as, and then tells me to logout.

My username is capitalised, but in lower case otherwise.
As it should be, or something.

It is the same in the upper right-hand side of the screen where it says I'm logged in.

Are you sure you're not SMACKFU?

What stirfry said blue beetle said. All in lower case, too.

I'm just going to assume that Matt fixed it and that I am not insane.

And I meant to say "capitalises", not "uppercases". Oops.

The case shown is whatever you input when you log in.

Mine's always been lowercase.

Oooh. We have a winner. I just logged in with some random letters uppercased, and it shows up in random places in the site. (Like in the "Posting as:" text above the comment box.)

...but I can fix it with some CSS to always display in lowercase.

Yes Matt, please fix our insanity with some CSS.

as far as I can recall, it's always shown mine in lowercase.

If there's any resolution on what caused this, could someone post it back? I hate bug threads without explanations, even if they don't pertain to me. It's like an unresolved melodic progression.

oops... answer noted. Progression resolved.

oh, interesting, I just spotted the answer too -- which I had read previously, but I didn't realize it was the answer.
That should be fixable when you set the login cookie (or whatever).

Lowercase internet handles are for kids! Behold my maturity as I treat my handle as a proper noun, and therefore capitalize the initial letter!

mathowie writes "but I can fix it with some CSS to always display in lowercase"

Rather than always lower case make it match the usename. I don't know if we've ever had a studly cap user but I would want them metatalking their wrongly displayed username.

I think you should use you CSS or whatever to display: You are logged in, as usual

But, you know, it's supposed to.

Posting as: GODBERT (logout)
You are logged in as: GODBERT / logout

Definitely based on what you enter when you log in.
We now return you to your regularly-scheduled mixed-caps.

Matt, I can't have sex if the stereo is playing music with male voices. Also I'm afraid of carrots.

I don't know if you'd use a class or an id for those.

nthdegx: That's the funniest thing I've seen on the internet all week.

Yeah, so what if it's only Monday. You're still awesome.
