Can someone educate me? October 1, 2001 9:30 PM   Subscribe

I don't think Bas67's recent deleted post linking to the Onion should have been deleted. I think that was good stuff. I was going to post the comment:

They should translate that text into the appropriate language(s), put it on leaflets, and drop it throughout Afganistan, Syria, Lebanon and the West Bank. It might make certain individuals think twice.

Was it really beyond the Pale? Can someone educate me? Or was it the material around the post on that page (which I didn't read)?

Well, not that we don't want a chance to let you go on about politics in the Middle East, because that's what I, personally, live for, but I think that fact that it's (a) a double post (b) to the Onion, for Allah's sake, is probably justification enough.

It's like a quintuple post. The onion issue was already discussed at length, so I think any new thread about a story within that issue is a double.

Every single article in that issue has been posted by someone in the past week (and deleted by me).

However, let's not generalize here. Everyone doesn't read the Onion. I looked at it for the first time (after hearing much about it) when I saw the post talking about the issue as a whole, not linking specific articles. I'm not new to the Internet, I just don't read the Onion. And That's Okay.

But since it seems most Mefi-ers read the Onion regularly, it's fair to say don't post articles from it, cuz then the Metafilter front page looks all "been there, done that" to many users.
