Downtime notice? November 30, 2005 7:42 PM Subscribe
WhenMeFiIsDownFilter: Any chance we could see a message a la Flickr-style like MetaFilter is getting a massage and will return soon or something to that effect? Not trying to sound snarky, but ideally I think it'd be better than the hanging pages and timeouts we usually get.
When the server is down, it can't serve up pages, so I can't do this.

Oh. Thanks anyway, Matt.
Thought: Wish I was a rich man. You'd be getting a new server for Christmas from me if that were the case.

I've heard there's supposed to be a way to configure a cisco router to re-route traffic to another server if the main server is down. But its probably not worth the effort.

Why does it give blank pages anyway? Most web sites just don't respond when they die.

crunchland - You may be thinking of the Cisco Content Services Switch, which retails for around $15K, iirc. They're sweet hardware, but the site has to be built to take best advantage of the snazzy.
