Vacapinta is a New Mod?

vacapinta deleted a triple in the blue? Who is this and why were they selected to be a mod?

You can look at vacapinta's profile page if you don't know who he is. He's the person we decided should be the "in case of emergency" midnight mod. He lives in London and he is wonderful.

No more waiting until the afternoon for bugs and spammers to get taken care of!

Though in fact I kind of like having a quiet metafilter in the morning, like when you wake up early and the only people out are businessmen and tramps.

Disgusting. Once again the MeFi Oligarchy appoints one of their cronies to a position of unlimited power in total secrecy, laughing in the face of necessary checks and making rude hand gestures at traditional balances.

And what do we know about this shadowy mandarin, this newly clenched fist of the old horrific regime? Allow me to quote the very words of the Vice-Minister for Deletion, Herr Doktor J. Amyn:

you don't know who he is ... we decided ... emergency .... midnight ... He lives ...

Frightening, no? And yet this monsterous enigma has ascended to the inner circle of authority. I quake with terror typing each word of this comment, which will no doubt be censored immediately by the newly-augmented gang of tyrannous co-dictators.

Looking at the profile of this executioner of the midnight hours, we see that he has "removed his photo" - and thus all traces of his true identity are unknown. He is also keeping tabs on 112 users. Woe, woe unto you who fall under the gaze of his dark and wretched eyeball - that's all I can say at the moment. If you want to know more, meet me tonight at the Hotel Umbra. Come alone and make sure you're not followed.

... And may God have mercy on all of us.

So when are people going to start coming up with new mod name mash-ups? Matamynapintex? Mavajessex?

Oh, heavens no!!!! I used a mashup not too long ago, and a very, um, "helpful" and overly interested MeFite took it upon himself to MeMail me to explain that doing that pisses some people off, him included, and that in his experience most people who did that "turned out to be assholes." He wanted to make sure I "got the memo." Yep, those are quotes.

That was so helpful. I love it when people are so interested in what others do that they take it upon themselves to point out such things.

My response? I politely replied that in a community this large, lots of things will piss people off, but I appreciated his interest in my posting habits. Then I put him on my block list.

OK, end rant, but I think any combination of the four names is going to look like something you shouldn't take while you are pregnant.

Matt: Oh, vacapinta, if anything happened, like some fucker rambling on about his band or selling orange juice coupons, you know what to do, right?
vacapinta: I honestly hadn’t thought about it sir.
Matt: First thing always is national security. Get your commanders together. Appoint joint chiefs. Appoint chairmen. Take them to Defcon 4. Have the governor send emergency delegates to Washington. cortex is gonna want to bring out the National Guard, do what he tells you. Do you have a best friend?
vacapinta: Yes sir.
Matt: Is he smarter than you?
vacapinta: Yes sir.
Matt: Would you trust him with your life?
vacapinta: Yes sir.
Matt: That’s your chief of staff.

I can't argue with that. If it helps, I'm American born but spent my early formative years in Mexico. Spanish is my first language. I also speak French, Italian and Portuguese. I'm a UK permanent resident now. The UK is my new home - I'm not here temporarily. My wife is Portuguese and also speaks many languages, is currently studying Russian, and writes English better than me. I have an American passport and am in the process of getting both a Portugal passport (via my wife) and a Mexico passport (via my parents).

I'm away for a couple of days and you appoint a Midnight Mod!? This is the best welcome-back-to-MeFi present ever!

I'm gonna wait till the midnight hour
When the midnight mod's around
I'm gonna wait till the midnight hour
That's when my post comes tumblin' down
He's gonna take it and delete it
My purpose, he'll defeat it
In the midnight hour
Oh yeah
In the midnight hour!

I kind of want to do a writeup on those but, archivist's dilemma: how the hell do you search for them? I suppose I could rig up some custom db-trawlery that looks for non-dictionary words tha contain y and x? Or something. Hell.

That could work, depending on how much Colossal Cave Adventure discussion there's been around here.

Well eventually those who are so inclined can just type the alphabet and be covered.

Yeah, as soon as they make dfgklquz a mod, we'll be done.

loquadgiouz would work too, if we decide to go with mafhowie or corfex.
posted by spiderwire at 12:03 PM on May 20, 2008

Oops -- I mean korfex.

All right, make it so.

Spanish is my first language.

¿Así que de ahora en adelante podemos escribir en un idioma de verdad y no esa cosa que usan acá?

Ooh, can we argue about what language should be used for a weblog based in the United States? Maybe make a multi-k thread?

So worth the $5 for the dfgklquz sockpuppet.
Fingers itching...must...stop...self...

congrats, Vacapinta!
