unanswered self questions August 27, 2008 1:44 PM Subscribe
If you reply to your own comment in Ask MeFi, and no one else has replied yet, it no longer shows up on the Unanswered Questions page.
This is obviously not a big deal either way, and some will probably argue that it should work this way.
However, it seems to me that when someone replies to their own question, they're almost always adding information / clarification, not answering their own question. So I'd think that the ideal functionality of the "Unanswered" tab should be a list of questions that haven't received replies from anyone except the author.
So again, no big deal either way, but I wonder if others agree with my thinking and, if so, whether we could have this pony?

I declare this thread to be answered! Next question please.

unanswered is literally "no answers" not "no good answers yet"
Add the "stumped" tag to your post if you still are looking for answers.

Posts in thread by the asker shouldn't count as answers, in their stats or in the asked question. Is that possible?

Or you could think about your question for a little longer before hitting post so that you will not feel the need to immediately clarify your question. (I'm sure that the next time I ask something I will post some immediate follow-up information for karma's sake.)

Posts in thread by the asker shouldn't count as answers, in their stats or in the asked question UNLESS they are marked as best answer, or the resolved tag is added.

Yeah, if the resolved tag is there, you drop off the unanswered tab.

Ok, pb made the change, which is now live.
Do you ever let the guy sleep? ;) I think every "pony request" I've seen here has been resolved by pb in what seems like a matter of minutes.
Thanks!
BTW: I'd never heard the "stumped" tag. Does that add questions back onto the "Unanswered" page?

It adds them to the 'Stumped Questions' sidebar on that page, yup.

It certainly is going to complicate the tagging of my upcoming "Monty Python and the Black Knight" question.

I wonder if the people who are stumped would have had their questions answered already if they didn't use cutesy unintelligible titles.

In related news, apparently there's an Unanswered Questions page. Who knew?

Question time! Has there even been any kingdom on earth that has not suffered through a regency?

I've heard that posting in your own question can make you go blind.

It depends on what Elvis fans consider "suffering", I guess.

I do that so that I can follow the thread in Recent Comments. My posts don't show up there automatically.
