deleted comments show up in side bar September 22, 2009 4:53 PM   Subscribe

I can see the favorites this comment has, and it shows up in my side bar because it was made by a contact, but the comment has been deleted.

OMG my favorites! You found my favorites!

Glad to see they are still around, sounds like you deserved them.

Yeah... comments in deleted threads also show up in users' comment histories, but that may be a feature not a bug.

We remove favorites on deleted posts and comments around 3am every day. We have that lag built in just in case we happen to undelete something. It's rare, but in case that happens the favorites would still be there.

But yeah, it shouldn't show up in your Contact Activity sidebar once deleted. We'll get that fixed up.

This sounds like a feature in need of a slight tweak. Just change the message to: "dersins had a comment with 16 favorites deleted from MetaFilter. 2 hours ago. Ha ha!"

For the record, I'm having the exact same problem with those favorites showing up on my sidebar, so it's not an isolated thing.

Didn't they try to tell you that favorites were ruining MetaFilter?!

Losing one favorite is a tragedy, but losing sixteen begins to look like carelessness.

This is why you can't have nice things, dersins.

Is this like a Tinkerbell thing where if all children in the world favorite a comment it comes back to life?

Damn Ajax. Do you know how hard it is to hand-forge a link to add a favorite to a deleted comment? Not worth the lulz, that's how hard it is.

I long for the days of innocence when everything was an HTTP POST and people could just favorite deleted comments without having to jump through hoops.
posted by qvantamon at 7:17 PM on September 22, 2009

And it turns out I can favorite it by looking through one of the previous favoriters favorite list...

Take that, dersins, now you lost SEVENTEEN favorites.

ok, deleted comments with gobs of favorites no longer show up in the user activity sidebar or some other places where things like that might show up.
posted by pb (staff) at 8:59 PM on September 22, 2009

No one marked this as a favorite or the comment has been removed.

Seriously. Nothing was ever here. Please move along.

How do you know you're not dreaming this? Go back to sleep.

Does anyone know you're here? Come closer. CLOSER.

Nah, it's people who care too much about how many they have. Thank goodness that doesn't include you, right?

I have some bottled Favorite juice. At least that's what the guy on the bus who sold it to me said it was.

Apple/carrot/ginger is my favorite juice.

I once had at least five more favourites. Damn you, Blazecock (yes, I know how pathetic that is. Make my envelope golden and tell me so. Memail begging is also pathetic, I know!)

Ok, I just cracked open the bottle and took a swig. It tastes like...Favorites. If you've never tasted Favorite juice, it could be described as "tastes like abstract".

From now on, I'm going to refer to favorites that are used to mark agreement as favoramirites.

Feel free to favoramirite this if you agree.

I will clean and press your dirty favorites for $0.99/favorite. I dare anyone to beat my prices!

Lies! Favorites are pure filth and if you clean them you will erase them.

I also wash and fold flags for $19.99/flag. You can't beat that deal, not even in town.

Hey, you're the one making that same "favorites are ruining Metafilter" joke in Metatalk multiple times over the past week. Can't blame me for noticing.

Favorites: For when quietly agreeing is too little and spousing is too much.
