I have sent a query to admin, but to help me get a better idea of what the MeFi community (overall) thinks, and the perspective they come from, I'm looking for feedback and discussion about why my
FPP was deleted. I'm looking for reasons why, not simple statements of objection. I'm not looking to respond or debate with anyone. Unless a technical question is asked of me, I probably won't respond. I would sincerely just like to read and take or leave what I find. Thank you.

I read metafilter for the articles and would love a way of filtering posts which contain mainly articles. Maybe a tag is the answer. There is a great 'givemesomethingtoread' site hidden in metafilter. Any suggestions on the easiest way to get at it.

This might seem a little early but Hurricane Irene is looking set to be a potentially very damaging storm. All folks on the east coast who may be affected need to pay attention to the forecasts and advisories, and plan accordingly. Please don't leave things until the last minute.

Today I idly clicked on the
10 years ago today link on the front page and was revelling in the innocence of the fledgling metafilter from back in the era when a busy day saw a dozen FPPs and a really active thread might get nearly a hundred comments. I was startled to see a
thread with 1729 comments. (By comparison, the initial 'Plane crashed into the World Trade Center' FPP three weeks later did not even break 500.) Alas, the link to the metafilter parody in the FPP is dead. Does anyone have it archived anywhere?

I've noticed lately that askers on Ask Metafilter often post something they think is clever but which gives you no clue to what the question actually is until you click through. Like
this.

In a recent thread about Metafilter memes, I used the phrase "
Beanplate Insane" to describe my own sense of frustration with certain over-indulged inside jokes on the site.
It occurred to me that it would only be appropriate to have an exclusive inside phrase to go along with those exclusive inside jokes, so I submitted "Beanplate Insane" to the editors of the Urban Dictionary, who officially approved the listing a couple days ago and
have now posted the term with my Metafilter-specific definition.

I would just like here and now to say a big "FUCK YOU" to Apple's "Lion Ready" Safari 5.1, which just ate nearly an hour's worth of work on an FPP for the sake of having to randomly and nonsensically "reload all windows and tabs" due to a single non-responsive web page.

Podcast episode 64 features Josh and Jeremy talking over the last month of things on the site while I've been off on vacation. Enjoy!

Does anybody have that comic fandango_matt made with the boy scouts and the anthropomorphic animals explaining metafilter? All the references/links to it lead to 404s and dead ends.

This week on Slate's Hang Up and Listen podcast, hosts Josh Levin and Mike Pesca debate what is and isn't a sport.
Pesca: If you wanted to have a thumb-wrestling league, and you wanted to have real criteria, and you wanted to rank people on the internet, then it could be a sport tomorrow.
Levin (laughing): Anything that you rank people on the internet is a sport.
Pesca: Metafilter is a sport.

Meta Filter, [1973-75] is an interactive console, two participants sit on either side and look at a series of neutral images of people, people as individuals or people in relationship to others on the small screen in front of them.

I was wondering if the powers that be had given any thought recently to perhaps raising the admission price for Projects. (You know, now that Metafilter rules Google and all...)

newsfilter. don't we have an unspoken rule in these cases to let a couple days pass until a full FPP can be created?
Nope, looks like that rule is not only unspoken, but unenforced and generally unthought of. One might even describe it as non-existent.
I would like clarification on this aspect please. The first sentence is mine.

Is there something broken with comments? When I hit "post", the page reloads, but my comment doesn't appear for a good 30-60 seconds, and then I have to either reload the page again or hit the Load New Comments button before my comment appears in the thread. This is decidedly not the functionality I'm used to on this website.

Anyone remember an FPP about an artist who made realistic baby head masks? There was a youtube video with a family of three people walking around (maybe NYC)? The heads were mucho creepy. Googling has failed me. Thanks!

I can't move around inside the text boxes on any of the sites.
I'm on an iphone4 that has whatever version if Safari that Apple blessed me with.

"Please refrain from bicyclist vs. driver discussion here. This post is about recovering from a serious injury."
Sorry, I'm afraid I can't do that... as such, I'll flag this comment and stay out of the thread.

This is too dumb but here goes - I can't post on the mobile site. I can't find the "New Post" links on blue, grey or green. Where are they? (FWIW I can
comment just fine, just not
post from my phone.)

Question (and I may have missed where this is): Metafilter is a geeky place - out of a certain curiosity, is there somewhere to get an OS/browser/whatnot stats breakdown for visitors? If not, that would be cool (even if merely in the form of a one-off FPP).
