He put all his reliance In courage and defiance. And risked his life for science.

There's a guy named mathowie who also frequently links to askme questions on his blog. It's like a bizzaro reverse self link askme filter. It would be fun to watch the meta implosion if he posted it in projects and then a newbie FPP'ed and finished the post with a "Discuss" or an editorializing leading question and then dios and PP posted in the thread and everyone jumped on them. Probably form some kind of superdense hyperlinking antimatter and destroy the internets.

Now he's posting tons of updates that add to the story which improves it. I don't see what the problem is.

Exchange transforms the things exchanged into signs of recognition and, through the mutual recognition and the recognition of group membership which it implies, reproduces the group. By the same token, it reaffirms the limits of the group, i.e., the limits beyond which the constitutive exchange -- trade, commensality, or marriage -- cannot take place. Each member of the group is thus instituted as a custodian of the limits of the group: because the definition of the criteria of entry is at stake in each new entry, he can modify the group by modifying the limits of legitimate exchange through some form of misalliance.

Cory may or may not be an idiot, and may or may not be a good fiction writer, but Rothko is definitely one of the best guys I know of at obsessively narrow and self-serving readings of a writer's intended meaning.

Doctorow embarked on a painful, painstaking endeavor to recover the data.
"This was about seven days' worth of miserable, round-the-clock trog-labor, locked up in my room with parts scattered all around me and notes with hex offsets scrawled on hundreds of scraps of paper piled ... in the Sisyphean stable," Doctorow wrote. "I hardly bathed or ate, and smoked hundreds, if not thousands, of cigarettes. When I emerged, triumphant and exhausted, I felt reborn.... I was a new man, and needed to commemorate the event."
Doctorow proceeded to collect a printout of the Sad Mac, which he took to his local tattoo parlor.

(Just for the record, and on the off chance someone cares: I'm inclined to think that Doctorow is not an idiot, though I find his brand of techno-optimifetishism rather annoying to say the least. I also think he's a pretty craftsmanlike prose stylist with some fairly clever story ideas, though he could use work on his characterization. I bother to say this because I've always had a pretty positive impression of Cory as a human being, and it irritates me when people dis someone "big" so they can feel bigger, too.)

Oh, man, Rothko, you just do not know when to quit, do you? You've had a hard-on for Cory Doctorow for some reason that I can't discern for a long time -- maybe it's got something to do with the fact that people respect his opinions and don't respect yours. Hell, I don't agree with him either, but he's a clever guy, he is as far as I can tell clearly NOT an idiot, and if he's more popular than me -- and he is -- then bully for him, as long as he doesn't use it as an excuse to be an ass (which, AFAICS, he doesn't).
But Rothko, this is not hte first, and I think not the second or even the third time you've posted a link to that little rant of his about Apple and DRM and either insinuated or outright stated that it demonstrates he's an "idiot". That smacks of something a little more than casual interest -- it smacks of gloating. Obsessive gloating.
The fact is that it doesn't demonstrate what you think it does, because you read it as saying things it's not saying. And no, I'm not going ot get into the specifics with you, because if history is any guide (and with oh-so-predictable you, I don't see how it could not be) you will drag it out until you are the last one posting in this thread, three weeks from now. ("Thank you, My comments!")
That's all I'm sayin', Rothko: You're obsessive. You should really get it looked into.

(and I agree mostly with Lodurr on Doctorow, except that I like his techno-optimifetishism and think he writes very mediocre fiction all-round. In any case, he is by all accounts a pleasant non-idiot worthy of respect. I would say "Unlike insert username here", but I'm trying to move away from that kind of talk.)

What a totally fucked up thing to write. Bigoted and fucked up. At the very best that remark reveals a lack of imagination so severe that you should reconsider your whole project; at nowhere near the worst it suggests a homophobia which you should do everything you can to hide if you want to be taken seriously. As angry as Rothko makes you I can't think why you would think that that would be an appropriate response; and as much as I'd like to not sound like somebody's mother, you should be ashamed of yourself.
