The blue is good lately! August 18, 2005 8:33 PM Subscribe
Just a quick thumbs up to the MeFites - skimming the blue reveals a large number of posts that are, a. reasonably interesting and b. well supported with lots of links. I feel like Mefi has been consistently stronger of late, perhaps fallout from the 8/1 contest? Anyway, just wanted to spread some love.
on topic: I don't think the contest had much to do with it, but there has been a surplus of good links lately, thanks mefites.
off topic again: please?

You know what, I agree with this. After the registration opened back up last year, the posting rate really picked up for a while, and I was disapppointed that the average link quality really deteriorated. I don't know why, but I think things have improved a lot since then. Have I become better at ignoring the worse posts? Has the 8/1 contest (link for gsb's benefit) really had an impact? Have all the bad linkers learned from the negative reinforcement of snarks? Even MeTa has improved; when was the last time we saw "What does '.' mean?"?
Thank you MetaFilter. And thank you, jalexei, for pointing this out.

The "." means we observe a moment of silence for the humorless.

How many humorless people does it take to change a lightbulb?

Mefi is awesome, in the same way that the cockroaches who survive the coming appocalypse survive to say, "Yes, we now control everything."
And that's pretty damn cool. Serious. I don't go out very much.

jalexei, you have no info in your profile. I will accept your love on a platonic basis at this stage but please post photographs for a reconsideration of this arrangement.

Gaaaak! And all this time I've been thinking that "." meant people were on their period.

I think that's it. I thought the contest was a magnificent and futile gesture, unlikely to affect any real change to what had evolved into a uninteresting political blog (with hints of Fark). But it is as if Anastasiav lifted the curse left by evil wizard Drew Chomsky! Metafilter has been great for weeks, and I am so grateful.

for what its worth, I've been trying to make my 300th front page post for about a week or so now, and every time I think I've found something worth posting, I realize someone has recently beaten me to the punch. Not just because of this, though, for the first time in a long time, I think Metafilter seems to be on the cusp of finding the latest and greatest web memes again, instead of being a day or two (or more) behind the curve, as it's tended to be for the last few years.
