Can You Search Profiles? June 28, 2006 12:38 PM   Subscribe

Is there a way to search profiles? I want to see if there are any members in a certain city (not near where I live, so the ones listed in my profile don't help).

I wanted to do this before I moved, so what I did was I changed my location, then reloaded my profile. Bingo. Or you could check the Frappr group.

Whoops, link to the Frappr group.

site:metafilter.com/user/ "san francisco"

Some of the results seem a little odd, though.

You could try looking at Google Earth.

Post an AskMe question about what it is like living in the city you want to move to and then look at the peoples' profiles who answer.

on the google earth thing, change the kml file to www.metafilter.com/metafilter.kml

It is updated every morning at 8am with the latest data.

I sense a stalker in our midst.

No, not stalking. Just doing some geneology research and would like to find someone in a city far far away who might be able to help.

Matt - could that be sidebarred and/or added to the FAQ? I don't think it's a widely known feature right now, especially with the updated URL. Thanks for the daily updates by the way.

change the coordinates on your page to a set centered on the city you are wondering about.
