A much deserved thank you to everyone who took the time to help me during one of the darkest times in my life four years ago.
Four years ago this month I asked Mefi for help with my gender, of all things. That question is where I will always mark as the start of my gender transition. Two years later I was a completely different and so much happier person. Yesterday, after a year and a half of living a cis passing life, I overcame my fear of being outed and came out on Facebook to my friends and coworkers.
I want to thank every single person that took the time to answer my question and give me your advice. I truly believe that it helped save my life. It certainly made me who I am today. Even though I'm not on Metafilter much these days, this website will always have a very special place in my heart.

Wow, that sounds great. Gender can be difficult, for sure; I'm so glad you found some help when you needed it.

Oh my gosh, yay! This is really fantastic and exciting! Very very best wishes to you and I am so glad that things are going so amazingly well! I am so, so sorry if this sounds patronizing but it is not intended to be; I am super earnest about this: It is really, really impressive that you've done such a great job taking ownership of your own life and happiness. I've always found it very, very hard and overwhelming to move forward on confronting my own issues, whatever they may be, so I'm super impressed that you've been able to reach a place of happiness in just four years.
I know mefi can frequently be frustrating for a lot of the trans members here, but if I can also chime in with an additional thank you: this site has also been helpful to me as a cis person in being slightly less clueless than I otherwise would have been.
I really want to second this as well!

I remember commenting on that post. I'm surprised it was so many years ago because of how well I remember it. I remember hoping you got some more clarity and figured out what you wanted to do, because you sounded so unhappy. I'm so glad you did!
So often when you reply to an Ask post, particularly one with a lot of emotion in it, you wonder if your reply was helpful, or if it even made sense, or maybe even if it was harmful - or if it just didn't get read, or didn't register, or was way off-base, or or or. I couldn't be happier to hear that the responses in that thread really helped you.
