mefi music radio hour January 28, 2025 3:45 PM   Subscribe

OK...I'm pitching. New podcast. Mefi Music made and kept me a musician. This is a goldmine of beautiful, homemade music. Bimonthly music review podcast that acts as a playlist and funnels money back to the best community on earth?

I really just need collaborators and permission. The exodus from various platforms is real and warranted. But if this is a bad idea, I'll be glad to hear the community vote with their thumbs. Making a somewhat regular radio show out of the brilliant shit our folks have done for decades seems like a good idea, but also will take a little work to keep above board. It may draw attention to what a good online community looks like, but it might lead to data-mining. Is anyone interested in that kind of project? Should we just not? Non-rhetorical.

Again, no version of this exists without consent and everything($) goes back to site upkeep.
Being a featured track on the mefipodcast used to make my whole day. Anyonehave thoughts of interest?

As someone who doesn't spend time in 'MeMusic' - this sounds like a great way to introduce people to it.

I like this idea! I’d particularly like if it’s not just a playlist but a real radio show with the announcer / dj introducing the songs, talking about what they like, etc. You could even interview some of the musicians, either voice calls which you could excerpt, or text / email which you could quote from. Hmm, this is also starting to sound like a lot of work!

You mention contributing money back to mefi - where does the money come from? I can’t imagine podcast ads make a lot of money until you have hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Maybe it could just be a nice thing without worrying about raising money?

So i feel like I need some help in the form of 1) collaborators, 2) mods thumbs up or down on the shabang in general, and 3 (!!!) nothing goes on without permission. So a bit of excel around there.

Speaking to 2) Does anyone else have any other big ideas? I'd be glad to mix and host, but would welcome help or a circle with both. And I'd love to set up a forum for suggestions, both praxis and songs. There are songs I've had stuck in my head from the aughts, but that is obviously bad curation.

(happy to move this over to mefiprojects orelsewhere...But only with some input from the mods)

mefi music talk could be your forum!

es_de_bah, this is such a great idea. However I can help I’d love to.

Here are a couple of ideas that come to mind:

song exploder-y sections where people take apart stems and talk about their songs

getting mefi music challenges up and running again. one episode could present the challenge and the next could play and talk about the submissions.

get the collaborative cover projects up and running again, like the cover album of flood by they might he giants

hey all...moving this to a new thread in musictalk. I still want to do this. Lots of good ideas here already. I'll send a link via mefimail to folks who expressed interest when I have a proper post up.
thanks!
