MeFi Film Fest? September 17, 2003 7:39 AM Subscribe
If one were to put together a Metafilter film festival, including undistributed short films that have been linked on the blue, which films would make the cut? Off the top of my head I can think of both A Shoggoth on the Roof and 80s Ending. Any others?
Gosh, there's this one with some fat kid doing something funny, but I can't remember where I saw it. Was it ever linked here?

I think you want the Leonard Nimoy retrospective down the hall.

do i look like a portugese man in a smoking jacket? :)
seriously, though: i run a local film night in boston, and i thought it would be cool to put together a "metafilter film night" since a shoggoth on the roof is in my repertoire already (with 80s ending to follow). since mefites have good taste in film (christ, bud cort is like family here), this seemed like a fun way to meet the neighbors and expose some new films. no attempts at emulating controversial posters or anything, at least not here.

Man, I must not read my own site enough, I just watched 80s movie ending and shoggoth on the roof for the first time.
Let me see, aside from the obvious super memes (like star wars kid, etc), I'd say I enjoyed music videos that showed up here in the past: Monkey vs. Robot (the version with the dudes in costumes fighting), Tunak Tun by Dalier Mendi (I'm guessing on the spelling -- it was the Indian superstar singer's freaky video), and all of videos at ruben.fm (the gold chains and dj format stuff are my favorites.

Perhaps the cool Japanese Matrix-style ping-pong game, too...
or was that on another site?

are you talking only of films linked on mefi or just films we like? if the latter, i recommend Flyerman (sorta self link, i made the tiny web site), Funny Games, shorts by Chel White (particularly "Dirt," based on a story by Joe Frank, and "Choreography for a Photo Copier"), "CU" and "TV" by Allan Heifetz, the bizarre pixelcam shorts of Matt Sesow, any of Ann Marie Fleming's animated shorts or her live action "You Take Care Now" and "New Shoes: An Interview in Exactly 5 minutes", David Wells' "Fairgrounds" (available from Facets in Chicago and Rick's Video in PA), Merhige's Begotten, Lodge Kerrigan's Clean Shaven, Rick Schmidt's Showboat 1988 - The Remake... i'll shut up now. if these kinds of lists is what you were looking for, email me and i'll send you some more suggestions.

The Parlor.
That Junior/Senior pixelated video.
I can't find it, but I'm almost sure I found out about Brian Springer's movie "Spin" through MeFi. It 's part of Stay Free!'s Illegal Art Exhibit.

Strindberg and Helium, which was this post (which is currently giving me an error, but may be working again soon).
It says on the website that it's currently in the Sundance Online Film Festival.
