Please give full names before using acronyms

Whether it's the name of a person, a drug or medical treatment, a non-governmental organization (NGO), a less-common internet term, or something specific to your field of interest, please spell it out and only then use the acronym. [more inside]

Oh, huh, I guess I do post a lot about that

I was meandering among the tags on one of my past front page posts, and noticed that "inspirational" said:
Users that often use this tag: brainwane
Other MeFites who make front page posts: are you ever surprised to notice a theme emerging among your posts? Like, "Oh, huh, I guess I do post a lot about that"? I'm curious!

RIP ricochet biscuit

Greetings, all. I'm posting to inform you of the death of ricochet biscuit. He passed away last night after a short illness. Michael (or Warren as he was known to some) will be sorely missed. His wife, Wendy, asked me to say a few words and "do him justice." I'm not sure I can, because I don't think words are sufficient. A brilliant man, in both his natural intelligence and his encyclopedic knowledge of, well, just about everything, Michael could always be counted on for an interesting conversation. A polyglot, multi-instrumentalist, D&D (and GURPS!) master gamer, funny, passionate, ethical, and reliable; you couldn't ask for a better friend. Joining in 2008, Michael really loved the metafilter community and often told me how much he enjoyed the lively discussions found here. Funeral and other information to follow.

Posts for Donations?

Is anybody out there up for the old "you donate money to Metafilter, I'll make a post for you" thing? I have a topic I'd really like to see posted, but I don't have the time to do it myself. I'd donate $25 to our Bean Plate Overlords if someone would do this for me. (I feel like someone was doing this project in the past but I don't remember who.) [more inside]

[RSS PSA] Reminder to update your MetaFilter RSS feeds

Last month, an apparent error in Feedburner caused several of MeFi's legacy RSS feeds to not update for up to a week (at least in my popular feed reader, Feedly). The problem has been fixed -- for now. But it's an important reminder that the Feedburner platform is increasingly unreliable -- if it were ever shut down by Google, the thousands of readers who rely on those feeds to keep up with the site may lose contact without even realizing it. The good news is that the site has a new set of self-hosted feeds that should remain active no matter what Google does. So, if you read the site using an RSS reader, please take a moment to update your reader to the new feeds -- and check the related posts on MetaFilter and Ask MetaFilter for a list of posts you might have missed during the outage.
