Proposal: MetaTalk(s)
I have learned a ton from the community here -- from pure knowledge stuff like how airplanes or viruses or financial systems work, to lived experience stuff like what some aspects of life are like for disabled folks, how to better spot my biases, how to be a better ally. These are just a very small sampling of the immense quantity of stuff I have learned from you all.
The thing is, a lot of that learning has been diffused over 18 years of being here. And a lot of the knowledge transfer has been implicit, from just participating and being exposed to social norms of which I was previously ignorant. This makes the huge gains I have enjoyed less accessible to a new user. I think it would be neat to be able to watch / listen to a talk from a MetaFilter member who is a subject matter expert on topic [X]. A Metafilter Member Seminar Series, of sorts. [more inside]

For this Euro time shift edition of Metatalktails we want to tiptoe into your dreams and ask you to tell us something you feel like sharing about your adventures with Queen Mab. Metatalktail hour: beverage reveries
Hello, friends! I'm covering for Eyebrows this fine Saturday evening, and so I ought to post something! And I'm sitting around a fire pit at a MeFite friend's house, drinking a nice beer and thinking about nice beverages, so: what's the last best liquid you consumed, or a memorable sitting-around-with-folks situation along those lines? [more inside]

Wow, a Whole Week?
Over eight years ago, I asked a question about the relative frequency of MetaTalk threads over a stated period. I was just wondering if there has been any further observed data on lengthy gaps between sequential threads in that particular forum.

Talk to Strangers Again
Hey guys, remember way back in 2005 when I had that AIM bot that let you talk to random people on the net? It melted down frequently due to some restrictions of the AIM network, and I lost interest in it. Apparently, the community didn't because people have MeMailed me about it since. I talked about doing a AJAX version, but never got around to it. So I thought you might like to hear that someone else did. [more inside]
Double Talk. Double Talk.
This came up on shuffleplay on itunes, and I'd like to suggest it as a theme song for Metafilter. Elephant Talk! [more inside]

Looking for Blabbermouth
Looking for an old AskMe — the question was something like "I talk too much. How can I stop?" It was posted within the past six months or so. I think I even gave an answer, but for the life of me I can't find it in searches or in my answers.

Become a pirate for a day
It is good to know, it this time of crisis and calamity and universal bruhaha, that there is still a place in MetaFilter to enjoy the quiet, traditional values of Talk Like A Pirate Day: "Dead Posts Tell No Tales."
Who'll join me in a round of pirate carols?
Fifteen men on deadman's chest
yo-ho-ho! and bottle of rum!
