Content blocking websites are garbage and should be flagged.
A recent FPP is completely unviewable. I tried - it blocks me from viewing, demanding an email address and agreeing to a complicated TOS just to RTFA. Websites like wapo, wired, telegraph, etc are actually impossible to view for many users, and I am surprised that links to them are allowed in FPPs. [more inside]
6 EXPERTS ON HOW SILICON VALLEY CAN SOLVE ONLINE HARASSMENT
Wired has a six-person panel discuss how to solve online harassment. MeFi gets a mention: "There are communities that are doing it just fine. On Metafilter, for example, people have totally elevated, helpful conversations, and there’s no name-calling."
Bless my buttons! Wired (via book excerpt) has cited MF re: sockpuppets!
AS SLEUTHS STARTED PICKING APART THE STORY, SOME BELIEVERS SUFFERED GENUINE ANGUISH BECAUSE OF THE CYNICISM.[more inside]
Then, on May 19, the user “acridrabbit” posted a simple question: “Is it possible that Kaycee did not exist?” Not only were there some inconsistencies in Kaycee’s story—some odd-sounding descriptions of how the doctors talked about leukemia, the difficulty people were having in finding an address for flowers and cards—but it also appeared that nobody had ever met Kaycee in person.
Wasn't there a post about a Wired site to find lost works?
I recall a Metafilter post within the last year or two. It was about wired.com creating a site so people could try to track down lost works, whether lost Dr Who episodes, Hitchcock films, etc. They had some successes early on, I think. I googled and couldn't find anything, which is odd. Does anyone remember the Mefi post or the wired site?
All your cats are belong to MeFi
This month's Wired Magazine features an article about teh intarwebz fascination with cats, and the first entry in its "Invasion of the teh Kittehs" timeline credits MeFi! [more inside]
Quelling ones Jobs-like tendencies
He displayed a graph of his mid-twenties existence, with the bar representing work towering over the one for personal life. Now that he’s 40, the bar heights are reversed. Mathowie, family man/firm rejector of corporate villiany, is featured in this month's Wired cover story.
Wired on Metafilter
So yesterday there were three separate FPPs linking to this month's Wired magazine. I'm not criticizing the posts (the discussions were interesting, the additional links in one of them were informative, etc.), I just find it odd. Was there any relation between the posts, or was it just random? [more inside]
No exclusivity here!
Apple wars
Trying to divert the ongoing derail about bias in apple criticism in this thread out of the blue, and into here. [more inside]
Crowdsourcing the Future
Metafilter, in Wired
Hey, I'll write about Jessamyn free of charge.
Mefi reference on Wired (sort of)
Lore Sjöberg has a column/blog/whatever on Wired's website. In the most recent edition/post, he expresses a desire to "replace [the caps lock key] with a more useful key, like Reload MetaFilter Obsessively."
Full thing here.
Unhelpful link text in Wired editorial
Mefi post in Wired
Not that it's anything earth-shattering but a post I made a few months ago has found it's way into the trackback section of Wired. September 05 issue, page 87. Just thought it was nifty. Doesn't appear to be on the web...

Wired Memespread Article
Not worth a front page post, but anyone who found the memespread project interesting might also be interested in this follow-up article in Wired. [via gulker.com]
"...Matt Haughey, editor of the popular blog MetaFilter."
From the article linked today in the sideblog on the Blue:
"...Matt Haughey, editor of the popular blog MetaFilter."
Editor? Then why haven't you ever fixed my typos?!?
Weird, Wired.

Jessamyn mentioned in Wired
MeFi's own jessaymn mentioned prominently in Wired article. Or see page 44 of the May 2002 issue.
a personal, human editorial slant
In an article about how 'push' technologies to give users personalised news are returning (second page), Wired mentions Metafilter as "[a weblog that] provides a personal, human editorial slant that machines can't mimic." I don't see Metafilter as a weblog that brings me personalised news - there's a lot of links and discussion that I skip over - but I do think it serves a useful purpose in bringing me interesting news that falls outside of my usual preferences.
MeFi -> Wired
What's the deal with Wired? And now it looks like they are using MetaFilter as a source for stories. Note the dates in the following examples:
1(MeFi, Wired), 2(MeFi, Wired), and 3(MeFi, Wired). In example 3, they even link
to the same government pdf document. Or maybe they're just following tpoh.org around.

Most obnoxious flash ad ever?
Most obnoxious flash ad ever? Wired News just lost lots of hits from me since I used to read it twice a day and linked to it often.
"Used to" being the operative term.
The flash ad fad is starting to fray my nerves.
(I wanted to post this to Metafilter, but I thought I'd get chewed out since it probably isn't linkworthy by some readers standards.)
