How about a Parenting & Kids Category on AskMeFi?
I've always felt that there is a category missing on AskMeFi. There are so many AskMe posts related to children, parenting, babies, etc - that I really think there should be some kind of all encompassing category for it. I've thought about this for a long time, but today is the day I finally speak up. What do you think? [more inside]

Viva quien vence... but, still...
I'm wondering if we should add a "History" category to Ask Me? I posted this today, and was surprised to find that we don't have this category choice. I wavered between "Grab Bag" and "Society and Culture" and finally went with the latter, though my impression of that category is that it's meant to address quite different, mostly contemporary questions... and checking past questions seems to affirm that it's not a great fit, though probably the best we have. I think my AskMe question belongs in more than one category.
Askme Snowclones?
This is a serious, intended-for-AskMe question, but under the rules (because it is about AskMe itself) it must be asked here. So, kindly play by AskMe rules. Here goes. Various authorities claim there are only 69, 36, 20, 7, 3 or 1 possible literary plots, all the rest are just variations on the basic ones. Is it possible to categorize all MeFi questions into a limited number of generic forms?

Plain text theme problem
Using the 'plain text' theme has a very small problem. In MetaTalk if you click on the category/topic of a post, the page it takes you to has the category/topic obscured by a brown box. (Slashing because sometimes it's called a Category and other times a Topic.)
"New comments" should be a link from category pages
New comments on category pages. I'm not marking this a bug, because I don't want to be asinine about it. [más adentro]
AskMe archives missing a way to go to older pages
When viewing a category in AskMe, it defaults to the last 30 days. Unfortunately, it seems to neglect to show the clever widget to allow one to go back further. It shows in MetaTalk's categories.
Category field
We already know that each thread has an (unused) category field.
Any chance that the following process can happen:
1. Categories are decided.
2. A team then allocates each thread to a category. (Happy to do it myself)
3. sports.metafilter, politics.metafilter etc. resolve to categories.
???

Is there a bug in the MeTa post category options?
Uh...I know I didn't post that last thread to Bugs. Can anybody else back me up on this?
Is there any way to track if it was somehow (spontaneously?) moved, Matt?

what is specific to metafilter?
What does "topics specific to metafilter" mean, exactly? Specific to "metafilter, the codebase and website" or "metafilter, the group of people who use the mefi codebase"? Reason inside...
Pony: categories for posts
Recently there's been an awful lot of posts each day on Metafilter. This is great, except that topics I'm involved with are flying down the page very quickly, and I'm losing track of what discussions I'm in. So, I had an idea.
Now, after reading the earlier thread about 'limiting the site to 10,000 users', perhaps my idea is good. Perhaps it's bad. It's probably not implementable, but here it is anyway.
Why not allow people to choose a category for their postings? Just like Memepool does. For example.. 'Crazy'.. 'Fad'.. 'Politics'.. etc. While the front page would continue to show all posts, it would nice to filter them myself, and not have front page posts moderated by someone else (which seems likely in the future). No?
