Longest time for an AskMefi OP return?
I have been checking this thread every day since it was first posted/I engaged and we have not heard back from the OP about whether she is safe/well/etc. I fully understand she may never write back (and that it may be in her best interest from a safety/life priorities perspective). [more inside]
To memail or not to memail - that is the question.
What is the etiquette (or should be the etiquette) of memailing responses to individuals as a result of AskMe comments? [more inside]
If you cannot say anything nice, quote somebody famous. [citation needed]

self-corrected spelling??
is there a protocol for correcting one's own spelling mistakes in a comment in the subsequent post?
Corporate Response in AskMe
Apocalypse WOW!
How do I get a heads-up on new comments to an FPP I didn't post?
Can I subscribe to a specific FPP in order to get email notification when a new comment appears? [more inside]
Watching old askme posts
Is there a way to see what old ask threads have recent activity on them? [more inside]
Pony request 7.0649.01: Thread markers
Simple proposition, but perhaps not a simple implementation.
Or perhaps loathsome to the majority.
Some sort of marker (and even the ability to disable it) to show where you left a thread after returning several hours, or even days, later. When it starts rapidly closing in on, say, 200, it's not so easy to find where you last were. [more inside]
Can you comment on my first metafilter post?
A few days ago, I made my very first post to Metafilter, giving links to several different kinds of interactive film. It didn't get deleted, but there was almost no response. Was the topic just that boring? Or could I have done better in my post? Suggestions welcome.
What's wrong with this AskMe?
Star Wars House Man comes into his own thread
Check it out - Gus somehow heard there was a thread about his crazy starwars filled house & he joined up to set a few things straight. That's the second time I've seen that happen in one of my threads, it's a cool testment to the visability of this place. Also, Matt, I will expect my $2.50, as we agreed.
Highlight AskMe responses by OP
In AskMeFi, there is first the question. Then maybe 5 replies down there is a response by the person who asked the question. But they don't often identify themselves as the original poster, and it is not always obvious that it is the original poster and if I am down the page I have forgotten their username. Is there a way to highlite responses by the original poster? Or a way to make them stand out?
Using an appropriate tone of response to personal questions
Fair criticism: "I think your post was just a little over the top."
Getting too personal: "Pretty poor showing - but hey, we need to hear what [commenter] thinks we need to hear. Who am I to argue with that?"
Over the top arrogance: "Look [commenter], if you had 2mm of latitude to accept some criticism about what you said, this would have been over a long time ago. Don't feel the need to defend yourself." [Because I prefer attacking people who don't fight back -- editorial comment and emphasis added].
Hypocritical lashing out and name-calling: "Senor [another commenter] - other than playing an incredibly biased referee, what are you doing here? Don't you have more important threads to not participate in?"

anon needs to be able to respond
Matt, threads like this underscore the need for the anon poster to have the ability to respond in his or her thread. I'm sure that it's not a trivial amount of work for you - what would it take to make this happen, and what can we do to support your efforts?
I think that this is one of the most important features on the to-do list. It must be so painful for the poster to be unable to respond in many cases.

AskMeFi email notification?
AskMeFi email notification?
I understand for threads that get a lot of replies - an email per response is way too much, and would be more of a hassle than it's worth.
What about a nightly cron job that notifies AskMeFi posters who have checked an "email me to let me know about new replies" box a notice that X number of replies have been posted to their thread? The box could be unchecked by default, of course.
I've found that sometimes, AskMeFi threads that are days old end up getting responses from bored folks who scroll through several pages, so I think this would be useful.

Email alerts about response to your question
Ask Metafilter: would be great if members posting questions could receive email alerts on new answers to their questions.

Sort by recent comments
I've not been here long, but already I want a pony. It's been addressed tangentially before: sort by recent comments." Add this to AskMefi - by monju_bosatsu and we desperately need a "My AskMe"but my specific desired feature is to have the ability to know if an AskMeFi question of mine (or MetaTalk question) has been commented on further since I last checked/logged on, even if it is on my 'user' page, rather than on the main pages. I couldn't find such a beast, so if it is there, please let me know.
I agree bookmarking the specific threads would get the job done, but what's the point of asking for a new pony if the donor could just say - "You already have a perfectly functioning bicycle" Thanks.

Firefox extension
I'm considering writing a Firefox extension for Metafilter. Would anyone use it? [+]

The Homeless Guy writes about MeFi post
The Homeless Guy has listed the posting of his link at MetaFilter as the main reason for his site's ultimate take-off in popularity. It's an interesting account of the effect that a little link on MeFi can have on an individual blogger: This posting on Metafilter generated some 900 visits to my blog that day. The following day an online magazine in the UK mentioned my blog (apparently after someone read about it on Metafilter) and my site received 1200 visits. The following day brought 3200 visits. The next day, Yahoo listed my blog on its list of "New and Notable" web sites, and it received over 15,000 visits. Go, MeTa.
Checking for responses efficiently
Is there some easy/efficient way to check for replies to your posts (e.g. your nick mentioned in a new post), so that you don't have to look at each individual thread you've posted to, checking for respsonses? (more inside)
Like the new comments, don't like the >>
Like the ability to click on (2 new ») etc to get to new comments. Don't think the » is necessary. That is all.
Where I stopped reading indicator wanted
It's great that MetaFilter shows how many comments for each posting are new for you on the main page. It would be even greater if, on the comments page itself, there was some kind of indication of which were new. A simple
tag at the boundary would do...
Indication of related MeTa threads
In the next design iteration of MetaFilter, it might be nice if on the front page there was some indication that a thread had been added/updated in MetaTalk. I'd wager a guess that at least half the 985 (eep!) members don't even know this section exists.
