What constitutes a thin post?

This post, a single-link recipe, was killed for being a bit "thin," yet innumerable SLYTs of cat--and, to be fair, dog--videos are allowed to stand. Lots of MeFites love pets, and lots of MeFites love food. What's the qualitative difference here?

Cat on a Scanner

Not a call out of anyone specifically, and certainly "be the change you want to see" but the front page today is comprised entirely of one-liners, mostly SYTL. Maybe it's decompression from the August Best Post Contest, but typically MetaFilter is known for it's "essay-like" posts and it feels like reddit today. [more inside]

The Missing (single) Links

This "SL[blank]" convention is officially starting to annoy me, and I think MeFi may need some sort of system like FARK has. If the post is a single link the host website will automatically be displayed when the user hovers over the post, or it will be appended in a small font size. The whole "SL" thing I believe jumped the shark with this post. The link text is "The Guardian reinterprets the three little pigs", but for some reason the OP added "SLGuardian". Well yeah, obviously we can see that. I'm craving some standardization here.

I think these xtranormal videos are kind of played out.

Nothing personal but we have a hardline "no xtranormal" policy here. (source)

Friendly-Reminder: SLYT 101

I am publicly turning in my FPP homework assignment.
Ahem.
I would like to think I purposely make dumb FPP mistakes so the newer members are less intimidated to post.
However, thank you rouftop for pointing out the obvious also everyone who applauded him.

Another request to find a lost MeFi post

I am trying to find the MeFi post to a YouTube video that features a little girl singing. The video was processed by the video poster by taking several snippets of a little girl talking, squealing, screeching and clapping a pair of flip-flops together. The result was an absolutely endearing "song", with a little synthesizer thrown in. [more inside]

Four People Beating Up On Someone (YT): For the Blue?

I want to single link youtube post this to the blue, because it's probably the most disgusting thing I've ever seen broadcast on modern television, and I think it warrants discussion. Appropriate?

One link posts could be saved

Just a thought about one link posts: Maybe people could save them until they had at least two or three, then posted all at once as say "OneLinkFilter: X, Y, Z" or "YouTubeFilter: X, Y, Z". Others could then emply their one link pile into the comments. Doing this might give the admins more freedom to delete one link posts which were covered as mere comments previously and don't generate much new chat. Other ideas like "YouTube friday" might require too much organisation.
